You've inspired me to work on my macros and to experiment with flash again. Great shot. Thanks.

Excellent macro. You really kept the depth of field constant - something I always struggle with on macros. Patience pays off I find.

Great detail, tone, and composition. I really like the geometrics of the windows, door, barrels and crates.

You've captured two eras here, I think. The hotel building seems to date from the 1890s or so, but the sign looks like its from the '20s or 30s. Nice work.

I like the way you composed this shot. there is a sense of movement in the street. However, it may be a bit oversharp for my tastes. The artifacts in the sky are a bit distracting. But it is a really good capture nonetheless.

Great perspective and very unusual view of an elephant's eye. One comment: it would be more effective with more depth of field as it really gets soft in the left corner. Nice view.

The composition is very interesting - the spacial relationship between the man and tree in particular. There is something disorienting about the fence (or is it a retaining wall?) Nice black and white

very interesting. It makes me want to get my flyrod out and go stalking some trout! Nice capture.

I really enjoy shots of objects like this. I think your alternative version is a better shot. I find the black space on the left side of the original distracting. Good job.

Steve:

Thanks for your comments. I had dodged some of the midtones and highlights but still did not get the contrast I was looking for. I will try another version along the lines you have mentioned. One other person mentioned the horizon line on the previous version.. JRC

The texture on the face of the structure is well captured. Compositionally, it may help to crop the right hand side - the sky in the lower right is a little distracting.

Cesare,

You are right about the alignment, I did not check it while edited the shot. Good eye! When I get time I'll post the shot in the original color. Thanks for your comment.

Hugo:

Thanks for your comments and critique. Your right about the Patterns in Nature project now that I think about it. I wondered about the foreground but then opted to include it without thinking more about it. But on reconsideration, I'll try cropping the foreground out and see how it looks. The foreground gave me quite a bit of trouble because of the exposure - a bit under in the original. I dodged it some to add a little more detail and contrast.

The colors are very nice - muted and subtle. I like how the sky is reflected in the tide pools and the color of the algae on the rocks. Compositionally, I wonder if moving to the right would have given more a perspective down along the pilings. A very nice shot. Keep up the doog work!

The tone is excellent. The darker tones to the left draw your attention into the mist in the background, as does the curving foot path along the shore. Very well done.

Nice shot and composition. Reminds me of my old Siberian. She'd look at me that way just before she'd run off into the woods...

Rashed,

Thanks for your comment. This is a water tube oil-fired boiler. It's about 8 years old- much more efficient than the 75 year old one it replaced.

I wasn't sure about the composition at first. But cropping the way you did draws attention to the eyes and smile. Very well done.

Thanks. The hard part was pulling out some detail on the wall on the right side of the frame. It was very dark shadow in the original.
