Great feature on the front page; both the picture and the excellent review by Zafar. I like the original lighting because of the mood it imparts. My suggestion would be USM if you have photoshop to make the cover pages a little sharper. Excellent capture and great B/W.

Excellent photo, John! I love the dynamism added by the blurred shop owner pulling down the shutters. This works beautifully in black and white! Congratulations, too, on the well-deserved recognition!

Came back to say congratulations on front page display. This is a great one of yours to be there. One thing I liked about this was the mood. To me the darkness added to that mood, and while M. Zafar Rabbani's work on it brought out details and evened out the lighting,it also took away all the mood of the image, leaving it rather sterile. Perhaps it is that he took it too far(which is easy to do using PS)and a half way between the two would be appropiate.

wont youe editing software allow you to paste your picture onto a big fat black square? Has been my solution most of the time (stil can't find a frame thingy on photoshop). Nice photojournalism here. I'd feel o.k. about posting images of strangers in this anon way.

Thanks alot Geert! I also liked the fact that only the magazines were well lighted and the rest of the scene was not. The other parts of the photo although important to the composition are not really important in detail! Thanks for Your honest evaluation of My photo! My best.....................John

Zafar,
With all respect to your personal opinion and image editing skills, I think your edit of John's image does not do it justice.
I love the (maybe unwanted) subtility in lighting that makes only part of the magazine covers stand out. Not every image needs a full range of tonality and unified detail.
Your edit simply made the picture less interesting, nut that is, again, my personal opinion.
John
Thumbs up. Spontaneous or 'only one chance for the shot' photography is not easy. I think you made a very good shot with this one.

This is excellent. Composition of this shot is very thoughtful and so is the execution. A slight motion trail of the person has created a delicate sense of movement in the frame. The exposure IMHO needs to be adjusted. The highlights of the spotlights have under-exposed the frame around it making the shadows lacking in detail. The midtones also lack body. A quick adjustment of the curves will greatly enhance the detail of the image.
Kind regards.

WOW! john this is intense and powerful! each magazine is perfectly lit the passing man falls just in the right spot of the composition, which is flawless I didn?t know that a guy can find shopping inspiring ;) 7/7 why dont you add a big fat black frame?
