Thanks for your comments and critique. Your right about the Patterns in Nature project now that I think about it. I wondered about the foreground but then opted to include it without thinking more about it. But on reconsideration, I'll try cropping the foreground out and see how it looks. The foreground gave me quite a bit of trouble because of the exposure - a bit under in the original. I dodged it some to add a little more detail and contrast.
A good shot, I like the way the patterns in the ice coincide with the darker area of the clouds, leading the eye to the horizon on the left of the image. that works nicely.
As for the Patterns in Nature Project, I think this photo shows a bit too much, the combination of foreground - frozen lake - background hills - and sky, to put it roughly, might be one too much. I think if you had zommed in a bit, cutting the foreground off would've placed ore emphasis on the lake and it's frosty patterns. Nice shot, though.
