Hi Chris - I am guessing this must be late afternoon light. One way to counter the "Lonely Wife" syndrome is to buy "her" a camera. Of course you do run the risk og getting shown up - my wife ( Carol without the e )takes 2 or 3 shots to my "million" and always comes up with something wonderfully different. I will be in the UK for 2 weeks in March 06 - Snowdonia and the Lakes district are the attraction this trip - drop me a line if you wish - dtasker@netspace.net.au

I often wondered what wives were for chris, I like the fence leading the eye into the scene, I don't quite know how you manage to post so many brilliant shots, would love to know how many you delete?

Absolutely superb composition, one of your best ever. As always accurate exposure, and fine post-capture work. Congrats Chris. *** If you are having worries with battery life, you might consider adding a vertical grip to your D70's. I use one (from Harbortronics in the USA)which holds an additional battery, doubling the life of the camera between charges.

Your wife walking off alone helps to show how lonely this land is. Lonely is not always a bad thing. This is beautiful. I'm curious what are the parallel mounds for? One day I'll get there and see this for myself.

Haha, I know that 'lonely walking thing'....!!! When I was on Madeira I usually started in the front, after a few photo stops it was the in the middle I found myself again.... and then a couple of shots 'down the line' I was the one not only carrying a camera but also the red lantern.... LOL!!! Wonderful view/landscape... beautiful blues and greens, excellent composition... the fence starting in the corner is great... well captured!!!

Beautifully composed Chris the dof is incredible with so many crisply clear details. The colours are magnificent. Were you tempted to crop from the right and go square? Did you try it and then reject? I make so many 'poor crop' decisions it's nice that I have the Margarets, Kathys and Anns etc to put me right. Best wishes to you Chris...Ray

Chris, I Love this shot...Straight into my fav's.
I know that Most of us who have someone in our lives who doesn't take pictures, has seen this First hand. My Fiance is always walking ahead looking around. She always finds me something to shoot, that I didn't see or wouldn't have seen. So I really love having her with me.
This shot is something I could see hanging up in a gallery somewhere. Well done my friend!
Best Regards
Sam III

My, Chris, once again you show what a beautiful part of the world you live in. Hard to imagine how this photo could be improved in any way... You really show it to us at its best, and because you live there, you can capture it on those days when the weather is kind, unlike the poor tourist who has to take the weather lottery.

What a beautiful piece Chris! The shadows in the hills, atmostphere, lines in the landscape and fence, plus the blueish green recession of the hills is a painting in progress in my minds eye. If I were to paint it (selective editing) I would take out the fence on the right and the white buildings and put some sheep (maybe) on the hillside! And I understand perfectly .....my poor husband used to take newspapers on our jaunts, now he takes BOOKS :) I love your images Chris! Thanks for sharing! Pat
