I like strong geometrical elements in my photographs, and I love them in this one. This one is almost panoramic (thanks for visiting my panoramas). I'm not sure how much PhotoShop has contributed to it; I see you are an expert in its use (that eye/flower is very impressive). The only reason I say that is there is something almost too suspiciously perfect about the lighting and colouration of this shot. If it was a simple shutter chance, then I salute your eye and your timing and ask your forgiveness for my suspicions! The editor's choice award was well deserved. This comment is not a criticism, by the way. I envy you your skills even though I prefer to allow the photo as taken to speak for itself without too much help from after-processing... I love your photographs of English traditional houses. I left England 36 years ago, and seldom go back... if you want to correspond, you can reach me at roger atmark despammed.com.

Thanks for your comment about the castle pic. The sky was added as the original was a rather boring plain blue. I'd have liked to have seen and shot it the way it is now, but there you go.

Chris; this is a beautiful and intriguing shot, and I think a lot of interesting interpretations of meaning could be made regarding this setting, but I'd just say that aesthetically I find it very pleasing and love the depth and long vanishing point. It's also a very pleasant and inviting setting-- but a bit mysterious?

This Photos reminds me of the work of Rodney Smith very much. Lots of depth of field and a subject that goes on and on and on. It bothers me that the bench is a little off center. It may not have been noticable at the time you shot it, but I'd love to see the curve in the center of the back rest line up with the center of the hedges. Nice photo

Hi Chris,
This is a great shot and is really the view you would get sitting on the seat, but without the seat in view one wouldn't be aware of that. The composition is just right and the perspective you have captured is spot-on.
120 views and only 10% of them have bothered to leave a comment is amazing.
Well done!!

Hi Chris:
As you know, I've been obsessing over time and mortality recently and this scene really made me sit up and take notice. The way that you've composed the two empty benches bounded by hedgerows -- the distant bench hardly more than a vanishing point -- has an almost mythic power. Are those really benches at all -- or a pair of Celtic harps? The perfect perspective which propels my eye onward, leaving me with the sense of an image rich with movement and meaning. -- Jim

Absolutely wonderful Chris, I think the seat is fantastic and what I really like about it is that it is echoed by one the other end, the hedges look great and lead the eye very nicely, you have done a good job with the shading and the painterly effect you have applied, a great image - Richard.

Beautiful simmetry and perpsective. Lovely tones and colors ensemble. The chair looks a bit unnatural but this seems due to a soft posterization effect and doesn't have impact on the beauty of this shot. Regards, Paolo
