About Pictured is Shiprock an ancient volcanic formation with trailing lava dikes. These trailing ancient lava formations have since eroded to shadows of their former gradeur (pun intended). Shiprock is a prominent landmark in northwestern New Mexico that I had to swing by to see. Amazing terrain in this area, but we won't tell my rental car company about the fine details of this particular portion of my trip.

Gary... Shiprock is 450m tall. I was far from the base, but getting to a good look out point off the main road required a journey along a very bumpy dirt road. I'm very glad that it wasn't muddy or I'd never have made it this far.

Great shot, Jim!! great colours and neat shadows. So what did you do? take the rental car all the way to the base of the rock across the desert scrub?? hahaha... Cheers, Gary

Jim this image is absolutely stunning. The light is magnificent and I love the composition. The long shadows add so much interest and lead me right into the rock which takes me up to the striking blue sky which then leads me right back to the shadows again. What a wonderful flow for my eyes. The detail in this is brilliant. Your work is outstanding. Cheers - Ann :)

Oh...by the way...I'm from the rental car company and your bill is in the mail ;)
