About When on Maui it's a must to see the sunrise atop Mt. Haleakala. This area is amazing day and night. I only wish my photo did this scene justice. Thanks for your time and comments. More of my work can be seen on my web site http://www.artbeacon.com/jmg-galleries/

Well ... living in Hawaii, (but on Oahu instead), I think I owe you and the image to comment on it and therefore I must first compliment you on even going there and photographing this scene of a dead volcano which I hope stays that way!

First ... the landscape and clouds at this not so high altitude as compared to the 'live' and 2nd most active in the world is a phenomenon in itself and quite well portrayed by your efforts, (basic and additional = the flair), which I also agree adds to the image in it's own right and perhaps can make 'Madam Pele' even pleased.

Mahalo & Aloha!

I liek this shot. I like the lens flares, they add a kind of motion to the photo. Together with the shawdows and the clouds it suggests the amazing view that was too big for the photo to capture.

this is a grat image Jim...I have never been there for the sunrise but i have been to the top and you captured that crater well...I love the clouds below the mountain top and I love lens flare...it just seems so appropriate for the image...good color and composition

Realy beautiful scene. The contrast of the shadow with the light is very good...

ps: sorry, but my English is not the best...

I guess I'm in the minority with the lens flare. I think it detracts from an amazing view. I'm not "diss-ing" the shot, I know you could have taken the flare out, it is an incredible view. ..Brad

I think that the lense flair adds to the overall eye candy of this image.
