Cheryl, thanks for your comments. The Fuji S2 Pro is great at getting saturated reds and purples as Fuji has attempted to model the colour response to match that of their highly saturated Velvia transparency film. No other digital camera that I have come across is capable of matching this colour response. The purple was enhanced using an 81B warm-up filter on this shot, otherwise the scene would have been more blue which wouldn't have reflected reality. Beyond that I do very little in PS. I work with RAW files so it's necessary to boost saturation and I use curves and Photo Wiz Colorwasher to bring out the contrast and fix colour imbalance in the image and then I simply sharpen the final result using Photo Wiz Focalblade. Both the Photo Wiz tools are excellent and well worth checking out.

Love the calming colors - the landscapes you use are great. How do you get these colors?

Barry, this is a fabulous shot! It is so serene, and the different colors of blues and purples are vibrant. The colors in the stone seem to be brought out from the ambient light surrounding. I'm impressed. Please show us more! Darren

Hi Barry, Thanks for the technical information on the filters. Eventhough the light was more enticing earlier, the use of the filters still creates a very strong atmosphere. That atmosphere is greatly emphasised by the slow shutterspeed, creating the velvet tone over the water. I definately have to try that too, some day. Well composed and an impressive shot.
Cheers,
Hugo

Chris, thanks for the comments. No, some how I've always managed to miss The French Lieutenant's Woman but I have read Persuasion by Jane Austen in which The Cobb and the wobbly steps are given a good mention!

Dang - that's a long exposure, one minute. I've noticed that long exposures over a second turns the water almost into a fog or smoke, with great effect.
I really like the crisp texture of the foreground set against the almost mystical and foggy water and sky. Good contasting views of foreground and background. Good use of the high F-Stop for a hyperfocal shot.
What drew me into this photograph was the color. Specifically the purple. That's fairly uncommon (at least when I shoot), and provides the perfect compliment to the orange dawn.
Good lessons here: 1. Lowest ISO for high resolution. 2. Long exposure for silky water. 3. High F-Stop for a crisp image and use of hyperfocal distance.
Massive.
