About

This morning I was up at 4-00am to head out to the lake with Ricco Vo ( http://www.usefilm.com/photographer/63612.html )for some sunrise shots. After a few days of rain I knew it would either be a brilliant sunrise or absolutely nothing.

We set up for the sunrise but when we turned around we noticed this incredible yellow moon in the sky. We spun the cameras around and I captured this image at 6-37am. We stood there and watched the moon set below the horizon. It only took 3 minutes for it to disappear completely. I am used to seeing it rise at quite a rate, but never had the chance to see it actually set. So I thought I would share this one with you all. It might not be an award winning photo but certainly one to remember.

It ended up raining most of the time that we are out there so quite a few of the shots do have rain smudges on them, but still some beautiful colours came through.

Judi, I like this one alot. I like the way the moon is framed by the grass and the branch. A some really nice color to boot.

The only thing that grabed my atenntion is the horizon is just slightly off. It is agravated by the way the clouds taper down to the right. I ran it in PS and the horizon is just .24 degrees off of level. However, when straited in out it is less much less obvious...

Judi,

To me this is amazing. First look at it I could swear you had just painted that yellow dot there. But if you say it was there I believe you!

Excellent natural phenomenon, and I like how it is all framed by that tree in the foreground.

A beautiful moon shot Judi, love the grasses in the foreground and the way it's almost a silhouette. The composition is also very good with the branch forming a nice diagonal and framing the moon between it and the grasses. Very beautiful image dear Judi....:):)Linda

Thanks Jay. You are not imagining things. The moon does look oval shape at that angle. It was that shape with the naked eye also.

As for the blur both in the leaves and the fork of the tree....I explained in the about that it was raining and there were rain splatters on the lens during the shot. Without covering the lens they had to stay there. The other blur is from the wind....you can see some of that effect in the grasses. But it was damn cold....Three layers of clothing and still shivering. Grrr...

Thankyou also for the flattering compliment.

A beautifully composed shot, Judi! I like your framing with the tree boughs and grass, and the colours are outstanding. Not to mention the moon itself!

Wow! I love the colors!

Judi! Your making me sweating bullets here! You post pictures quicker than I can type.

Anyways Judi... Great photo! One thing... the picture looks a little squashed. The moon is in an oval shape. This (to me) makes the moon look tiny and it creates difficultly to see the details. Maybe suggesting rounding it with the warp tool in PS?
I just don't know. Both ways can work, oval or not.

I just love the colors, I love how you selected a certain trees for your "framing". Brings a nice comforting coziness feeling.

Looks like you suffered with a little chill from taking this shot. : )
I can see the slight blur in the trees, i'm guessing it must have been a little windy. Hehhehe

One last thing I spotted, (I feel very critical, then again... this is a photo critque website.) there is a slight soft light coloration at the "Y" part of the tree. It kinda draws my eyes to the "ghosting" part of the tree.

But! I love it still! Your work is always refreshing! That is why everyone LOVES you!

"Whew!" All caught up! I like can't miss a day of usefilm.com. Lol!

Thanks for sharing Judi!

Hugs!

This probably is an award winning photo, Judi! I like it! The Composition is great with the foreground framing the moon and the colors are surreal. I like the black framing. I think it goes very well with the tone and mood of the shot. Well done! Larry

Neat image!! It's a first for me (seeing the moon set...), but I guess that's citylife for ya.... it's not because I always get up late as I work nights and evening shifts as well.... ;-D!!!! Great natural framing, colors and composition and even though there are some blurry spot, it's not distracting from the overall view... well captured!!!

Thanks Kel. I would love to have a camera around when you view the setting moon...if you know what I mean...hahahahaha!!

Yes, both our cameras got a little wet...there wasn't much we could do even though we were either sheltered under the picnic shelters or I was standing over the top of the camera and tripod to try and my jackets to protect it. They came through okay, fortunately.

I like the composition very much, the tree branches makes a beautiful inner frame and the orange line crossing the frame is great.
