Hi Daniel,
You should never be afraid to give your opinion on an image, especially if you put it in such a straightforward way! In this case, I have the same criticism, the hiker's face is too dark because of the hat. Had I been on the ball, I should have had him hang his hat on his belt since the hat is part of his personality, or could have used some fill flash as a previous poster mentioned. Someplace around here I should have another one with a different subject, I may take a look and see if they're clearer. I greatly recommend this particular hike - the views all the way are spectacular and there are loads of possibilities for photography, with waterfalls, streams, fallen rocks, rugged cliffs, a hanging loch(lake), even RAF fighter aircraft passing down the valley _underneath_ you so you can look down into the cockpit!

Hi Chris, Awesome image. The hike to get there was well worth the effort. As a newbie to photography I wouldn't dare give to much in suggestions as I would sound foolish in doing so. The only thing you might (and I say that jokingly as I would have not even notice it) of tried would of been to have your hiking partner remove his hat. I don't think it detracts from the image much. I'm fixated on the expanse and effort taken to achieve this image. Good work!

Hi,
Thanks for your comments on my image, particularly you Dave for your in depth comment. No polariser was used, it was just a perfect day (with a bit of help from Velvia). Fill flash would have improved the image and as you say placement of the intrepid wanderer could have been better. My flashgun was 2000 feet below in the car.. last thing I thought I'd want on a day like that! :)

Likewise I'd love to get to Canada someday!!

A pleasant breazy feel, makes me want to be there! Did you use a polarizing filter? The horizon is slightly tipped. Also the subject's head and the distant horizon come together with confusing lines. I would have preferred him to be either standing higher by a few paces, or maybe crouching lower and closer. Fill flash might have opened the shadows over his face. That distant river really gives you a feel of being 'up there'. Scotland is still on my list of places I have to go before it's all over. Thanks for posting.
