Hi Chris... I think you are quite right that this was maybe worth a bit more than 5. I rate it a 6 personally, but a 7 may make sense as well - I did hesitate... The light is indeed wonderful - very tough to improve imo. One may think that a reflecter on the dark side, to at least get SOME detail in the shadows, would be better, but not me. 1) I guess you were not able to place a reflector here anyway 2) I personally have nothing against black shadows, though I always meet people who tell me I'm wrong to think that way... Tough question anyway...:-)
The 2 things I can think of that make this image a good but maybe not fantastic shot are, imo:
1) The T-shirt... Silly, I know... The man was probably not going to change shirt for you, but well, that's the tough side of photography: if it isn't posed, we can only record what's there... and if what's there is a T-shirt that actually doesn't fit the mood of the picture, well, too bad...:-)
2) I feel this picture lacks music. Meaning it lacks movement to suggest what music is being played. Very calm and static. Nothing wrong with that, but less eye-catchy than a Mike Jaegger kind of pose, I suppose. So it's good, but there are better shots - of course. Nevertheless I do like it. Best regards.
Hi Elangovan, Thanks for your comment on this and my other photo! Looking at the jpeg above the letters don't seem totally sharp, but I remember when I did the print being pleased how sharp they were... here is a detail from the original scan for interest! Chris
