The DoF should extend from the foreground a bit more to the background in order to have a good depth perception here, shouldn't it?
Anyway, at that time, when I was getting this series, I hadn't yet the necessary skill for absolute control of the DoF, and so I thought that perhaps as long as I was still learning about this subject, I should try to use selective focus and see what happens. This is one of the images that I took this way.
For me your portfolio is full of images that are both technically very very well done and also have their own kind of style, which is a rather seldom combination nowadays. You developed your own character of photos, and as far as I can see you go on your way, which makes your images very recognizable.
About awards, well, don't care too much about them Hakan. Better to do it your way and if some award comes, then it is fine, but otherwise it is also just about fine.
You see, first of all we live in times where much nonsense free of content or style is being pushed up to create the typical fashions and hypes. Look for example at such "bands" like "back street boys" and similar, that aren't even able to play some instrument, or compose some real song. Just one day flies that come and go. They get glorified and they get dropped, that's all. So, in general, people that try to put some more thoughts in what they're doing have also a much longer way in front of them. The best thing to do is to just go that way without caring about acknowledgement.
Second of all, we must be thousands of users here in UF. Many of the participating photographers are "photographers" that fill this place with "sweeeeeet" and also terrible images of their kids, their cats, and their dogs. (And we of course have to find that crap "sweeeeeet" ;-)) But even if we put aside the above eternally incapable lightweight minds that do not have a glimpse about photography, we still have a huge number of excellent photographers like you, and an even huger number of extraordinary images like yours. So, as you can understand, it can get really improbable for some certain image of yours or of any other really good photographer to be awarded. The probability that one of all the good images will be awarded is of course 100%, but the probability for a *certain* image of all those that are great to be awarded is about 1/N, where N is the number of good images.
So just keep on doing your things the way you did up to now, and be sure that you will receive awards, but do not take that too seriously. It is more important to do good work like you do than to receive awards, isn't it?
As about the criteria, they are the typical criteria of good photographie - although sometimes crap can make it into the "top-images" of a certain new project too, simply because there are no other images available in this project yet.
Tengo algunos problemas con el DoF Gustavo aquí, ya que creo que debe cubrir un poco más de la flor. Pero también me alegro de saber que le gusta de esta manera.
Thank you so much for your interest Nick! Can I ask something? How is my portfolio? Please be honestly when you answering. I'm thinking about my photos and what is the problem I don't know. I still didn't win an award. Why I don't know. Is there any criteria for awards? Do you know?
