About While spending the day in Pacific City I actually first planted myself on a rock full of life- altho I tried to stay as far away from this life as possible.... It was like 'everything was alive here, and on that day too ' ...I recognize the muscles in-between the white shells here- but not familiar with these shells... BUT they were alive for sure !!!! I promise I didn't hurt any ..... and if anyone can help me name them I would be grateful....

As it is now they are 'White Shells' fairly small in size but opening and closing ... and spooked I might accidently take a wrong step..
poor little guys....

NO I don't know enough Dave-- but I get confused because You are a teaser with me... and so I am not sure when you are teasing and when YOU aren't ...

'YOU Know this is True as when I thought YOU were actually coming to Oregon ':((
Now who's the Bute...((?))

:)
In fact I still don't know what the heck these things are ........:(( Still don't know if you are teasing either...guess I'll go eat worms:(((

Dave Arnold Dave Arnold   {K:55680} 6/6/2007
Well, well, well, Miss Know-it-all... so I am a teaser, huh? Well, I will have you know that I have two degrees in Barnacles and another in Oceanography (I think that is how it is spelled). So who am I to tell you what these things are called?

So, the next time you need help identifying some little mollusk that you smashed trying to get a photo, wiped out a poor little life for your own self interests, just remember not to come to me for advice...

You're a brute.

:)

I´m so sorry! I´ll try to write you in English, but I don´t make it very ofen, ignor the errors… this animal that you have in the image is a “barnacle" the same family as the crabs, what happens is that its imprisoned (stuck) in the rocks as you could see. what you called shell, it´s not only one, are several, at least 7 … they are like nails (the shells) and inside are some kind of little arms with beards as like the mouths of the whales, that filter the fitoplancton. They are excellent to eat, the best ones are of Portugal, France and Spain, in Spain are called the king shellfish. When you´r able catch some and cook them, I´ll tell you how to cook it: it´s just water, salt and some chilli. Let the water boil, put the “barnacles" (here we call it "percebes")allways in hard fire, let it cook for 3,4 minutes, and its ready...goes well with cold beer! Enjoy!!!

You are very thorough dear Iman and I appreciate you and your time...I wanted to share some future information I got in-case you might ever come accross this your-self as it sounds very good. I am going to copy and paste this info into this 'reply' but it is in the comments as well...
Hugs,
Michele~

Ruben

I have never seen such shells before, Michele. They look amazing! I know what you mean. In Venezuela and also in Kauai at the beach I experienced how the sand came alive full of huge and small crabs!
Take care

The third one from the left is a Triumphudus Moluscusie. The 6th from the right is a Notimous Plendexi Mosulsia. The third up from the bottom is the Wettingstone Mulosca. Just right of center is the Bi-valve Verdanzig Triple Stripe Mollusk, the pesky little one that found its way into the US in 1988 and is ruining sports fishing as we speak.

Glad I could help.

Dave
