About I think I am obcessed with capturing the colors and beauty I see when a small stream of water runs thru the sand and in this particular image there was a somewhat strong stream that created a braided effect where the water streamed faster than other places....

I love the rich colors when wet against the fast drying colors as the shapes are formed and some rise above the stream---....... well we all gotta have something that we love -lol!!
Now You know my Secret attraction at the beach :))

This is a small dedication to my Great Teacher who may claim to Not know me after this image is posted (LOL) 'Doyle D. Chastain' who always encouraged me since my first 'Wet-Sand' attempt a year ago.... Thank YOU Doyle- For everything ...This image made me think of Your support even then :))

Now Michele I can understand regards sand & beach..” You love it” this one it looks more abstract blues and whites are always my fever! I recommend tripod do to the fine sand can easily blur, sometimes wide apertures can cause that too, and usually I shoot between f8 and 11 and holding my breath for 10 to 15 seconds using center weight on manual mode!!!

Thank You Onie- love your enthusiasm .... it is wonderful - makes us all feel so special- (works for me I know this much -lol)))

Geez....You've just remeinded me that Doyle has not yet seen this either- he has sooooo much going on (like another person I know)))) I don't know how he manages....

My first 'Wet Sand' image I did almost exactly one yr. ago - and Doyle made me a special frame and encouraged me about liking the idea, etc. I don't think anyone else even commented---haha!!! and since then he has been a faithful mentor- the King Of Cool-
Best teacher I have ever known honestly.....always says a positive before the critical mistake... and by the time he's done you have learned a Lot ... and feel like you've been complimented -
He's just very patient and full of information- well I am sure You know this - sprinkeled with Humor that means soooooooo much !!!!

Thank YOU for your great comments Onie !!!

Thank YOU John - I am stumped about this image too- I like it small but not as much en-larged... it is both sharpened, and then again a 'glow' which sort of softens it- could not decide myself but appreciate your comment !
Regards,
michele~

AH yes, this is the max of memory size, ie, 400kB, thats kilobytes,. normaly when i down size the pixels, the kilobyte size goes down automaticly,. good luck,. regards art,.

Michele Carlsen Michele Carlsen   {K:146013} 5/10/2007
Me again ART I think I was using the wrong word ... Images are not to exceed 400k
( not sure what it is -*K's)) but many of my images seem to exceed this limit and one is the wet -sand image ... does this help ?
I have also ask Dave Arnold to explain this as he explained it to me when I first ran into my problems about sizes too large....
Best to You,
Michele~

i think i see where you get this 400 fig from, this is a minimum requirement,. the maximum is 850x850 total 722,500 pixels per image as stated in the usefilm FAQs,. lol,. i do hope we get this sorted soon, i'm getting confused with my own figures, tehe,. all the best to you michele,. regards art,.

Michele Carlsen Michele Carlsen   {K:146013} 5/10/2007
The total Pixel size for any image up-load is 400- and recently for attatchments it is 360 pixels.... I know I calculate that the best I can which is not normal math but it does depend on what you're trying to up-load If its a busy image with much detail you will notice this immediately if you try to up-load it-- In BIG RED Print comes the writing- 'Image too large for u-load'

If it is simple with lots of sky and large space no problems.... now with sand there is many considerations- Just try it you will see what I mean--- I thought like YOU did until it didn't work anymore :))

And I know anyone else could explain this better than I have :)) Beleive me if I could up-load a larger file size I certainly would - I always give it a try:))

It's Ok if we don't understand each other-
One day - it might just click :)
All the best,
Michele~

greetings michele,. not sure where your getting these figures of 408 & 360 from,. attachments can be 750x750 and normal uploads 850x850=722500, i allways upload just under this 722500px fig,. hope this helps, i'm sure doyle know's more than i about such things, or even a quicker more simple way of down sizeing for uploading,. much regards art :¬)

Hi Jan, No this was not cropped at all...
I took this image in a VERY large file size- 2256 X 1496 and I think this is what caused my problems at the begining because it was toooooooo grainey.... for me-
I mean the sand is grainey of course but in my image the sand was larger than life and I wanted it to be just like I saw it ..which was about the swirl from the water...so I added a 'glow' which diminished the HUGE grain detail -
It works at a small size but I am not happy with it blown up (?) Most others question it en-larged as well-
Thank You for your interest You 'abstract' organic Man ..(ha!)

Best to You,
Michele~

Hi Art,

Thank You for your comment and I totally agree with you .... I wish I could send this in the file size I'd taken it in which was 2256X1496 pixels and maybe this contributes to part of the problem... I did get it down to 408 pixels and hope I can send it to you thru as an attatchment so you can see there is not a lot of difference... I don't do much in post processing... just tried to bring out the dark and light colors a bit more, and also to use a 'glow' to cut out some of the natural grain of the sand..... anyway I have had much better results in the typical large size here on UF so now I am really thinking that my super large file size could have been the ruin for this image en-larged(?)
Thank You for your comment, it is appreciated and also if you can figure out what happened I would like to know your thoughts...
Regards,
michele~
Geez it's got to be 360 pixels now - so must re-size again :(

Michele -- It is all about the swirl and the color. Was this cropped a lot? That may be why the texture does not hold the detail.
Or was it your intention to diminish the detail to emphasize the color? Very pleasant viewing either way.
--Best to you, Jan

Hi Ian, Thank You for the suggestion... I think more dof would help --- because oddly enough I like this image more as a thumnail than blown up very big.... yet not sure how to make that happen when the sand it virtually flat, I could destroy this tiny image with one foot:(
Much appreciation for your time my friend.

Best wishes,
Michele~
