this type of landscape is so foriegn to me. a real forest ! lost the soft misty look, the suttle colors. you captured it perfectly.

Thanks Kevin!!
Elgin Park is in South Surrey just off Crescent RD. (all the people that live there will tell you they live in White Rock!) It's really not anything to look at as you drive by... just a ravine with a creek running through it. It isn't until you park, get out of the vehicle, climb down the ravine and follow the firehose (not kidding, there is a firehose there... one that I had to cover up with leaves and such so that it wouldn't show in these images) and look at the amazing trees and such!
Thanks again for the compliment, as I was pondering whether or not to enter this one in a contest and after re-reading these comments I think that it's going to go.

Damn, how did I miss this one?

I love it, and I'm jealous that you took it first, which I think is about the best compliment one photographer could give another. To me it's all about the little stream, that's what totally sells this image and adds the icing on the cake that pushes it from good to great. And, moreover, the way the bright fog reflects in the water.

So... where exactly is Elgin Park? :)

Kim,

I am so glad to see you put this as your best photograph. I can understand why. After all this is my third comment on it!

This is so dreamy! The colors are beautiful.

Thanks Russ! I really like this one as well... it's hanging in the living room! Can't wait to get back out to the west coast to keep experimenting with these old forests.

Kim,

I agree, this looks like a water color from the impressionisism period. (Monet, Renoir, etc) Very good. It ihas a very calming effect to the shot. I love the colors you were able to capture here. the pastels are great. Very good work. (9)

this is a great mood catcher...it looks more like a painting than a photo.

I love this! The color and mood are excellent. The one thing i might change would be the sky - it needs to have that bright glow, but maybe toned down just a bit IMHO. Nice work, Kim! (c:,'

This IMHO is an excellent piece of work. good composition and balance. Good detail. Very nicely saturated colors and the mist is done beautifully. One of the better nature photos I've seen.

Thanks Artie! (although I'm curious as to any things you would tell me to change or try differently...)

Thanks Kevin, for you comment and vote of enthusiasim for Canada!
I have a few more of these, but I think its this one that I'm going to make a print out of for our house... it has that "old forest" feel I was going for.

Kim, being a fellow Canadian (now living in PA), I have visited Vancouver, the rockies, and BC and Alberta in abundance.

This is the epitomy of the beauty found there. It is an indredible photo. I'm assuming through the viewfinder you couldn't see squat with a ND and a Polarizer on there. But the capture is very well done. Great composition, and just the right amount of DOF.

Unfortunately, now I miss Canada :) .. Keep up the great work
