Great image Rebecca, beautiful in every way, I like your version and Jim's but I only wish he had left in the reflection, I think it adds balance to the image...gorgeous work..Linda

I like the trees in the background and the reflections in the water. Those two white ducks are perfect, as is the fence pointing to them like an arrow. Jim Loy's version is an entirely different picture, neither better nor worse. I like your original vision.

That's why I love sites like this!! You're right Jim. I have to agree with everything you just said. When people explain why it would be better, etc., it allows us to see it on a different way. Thanks so much Teacher! I love this site :)

Becc... please forgive me. This has the possibility of being a great piece. But if I may... We do not always need to see everything. Often, a hint, or suggestion works just as well or better. I did not do anything to this... just cropped it a bit differently. Since the mill is the focal point, use that to your advantage. And the fence on the left works well to balance the fence on the right. The entire reflection is not necessary because we have the entire true image. And those white ducks/geese/swans set it all off so very well. I add my small contribution to the mix. Just a re-crop. Wonderful in every other way.

What a beautiful, tranquil scene, Rebecca! The horizontal format gets my vote, too because of all the horizontal elements in the shot - the fence, the bridge, and the mill itself. It has a wonderful mood to it, although I would like to see it a little brighter.

Hmmmm. After looking at both, I think this is the stronger image because of a more accurate exposure. I prefer the vertical composition, but the exposure here makes all the difference.

I like how you included some of the surrounding landscape in this view but I also like the sharper reflections in the other view. If I were forced to choose however I would chose this view. Del.

Lovely mood in this photo, the barn with the way the roofs are highlighted is beautiful. I love that you have even captured the little ducks in the shot. Alison

Hi Rebecca!!! How are You???
I looked at both photos and really prefer this one!! The horizontal version works better for Me because it shows how the mill sets so nicely into the surrounding landscape! More of the foliage is is visible and the fence and small bridge on the left complete the composition very well!!
The exposure is very good and the overall results are pleasing Rebecca!!!Pretty scene!!!
Well done!!! My best..................John
