Thanks Thilo. No blur filter here, just a long lens and bit of unsteady hand. Blur aside, I decided to keep the image for its honesty. cheers, erik

Dear Erik,
nice toning and DOF. Nice to see the shadow coming out of the old man or ending IN the old man. the image has a very soft, probably a bit too soft. did you work with a blur filter?
take care, Thilo

Thanks Deborah. I did most of my shooting in Liguria in the very early morning light, some before sunrise. I'd get my espresso after shooting for a while. Ciao, erik

Hi Erik.
This is a beautiful shot, and I like it as this sepia as well as in color on your own site. Your sense of color there in the Liguria series is really nice and I like that they are a bit on the darker (color) side.

Thanks Ken. That's a good point about the two different qualities of light. I hadn't thought about that consciously.

Another beautiful shot. I love the hard light on the bottom of the frame and the soft light on the rest of the picture. Great!

Thanks Sally. I thought the sepia look would drive this emotion home even deeper.

Thanks Sandra. When I saw this guy, I couldn't help projecting the story of a lost wife on him. Maybe it's true or maybe he just needed a minute to digest his morning prosciutto.

Thanks once again Neal. A master? That's way too kind. Please keep on bringing on the thoughts and criticisms. That's what this is all about.

Just perfect how that reinforcing strap on the bench follows the contours of his body. And how you darkened the lower left corner, forming a triangle. But why should I mention these things? You're obviously a master who knows precisely what to do. Inspiring.
