About
Another from the steel mill series. The instrument that this man is holding is similar to an arc welder. This bar is solid steel plugged into a device that sends a current through it. When it touches the scrap steel in the vat, it sparks and generates a lot of heat. (a lot of noise too). You can look at it from the side, but trying to look from his angle, the light is so bright it is blinding. Similar to watching welding.
This furnace will heat the metal to about 5000 degrees and holds about 9000 pounds of molten steel. He stands this far away because a lot of sparks and debris comes out of that opening.
This is a perfect compositon and a perfect exposure, Mark. Great detail and color. Your "about" is very informative and adds to the picture. A good job! Larry
