About
Lyrebirds are notoriously difficult to capture as they are so shy, and so brilliant in mimicking the sounds around it. I was attracted to this area because I heard 4 different calls come from the vicinity in quick succession, and it didn't seem right, so I waited for about 10 minutes and sure enough this fella came out and started scratching around. They have been known to scare off potential predators by making sounds of human industry such as passing motorcars and horns, as well as distant chainsaws!
They get their name not because they are "liars" but because of the shape their tail feathers make when they are upright, they resemble the musical instrument "lyre".
Shot on tripod and in very low light conditions using a flash under a tree canopy. About 1/45sec at 5.6
