This is one of my front yard sunflowers. I used the solarize setting on my camera, this was not done in PS. I rather liked the effect. The yellow on the leaf is pollen from the sunflower. It is leaning up against my bird feeder, and that is a weeping willow in the background. What do you think?
Cindy, I agree with John. The reason you took this picture was the flower I believe, and not the background. Too many times people take a photo and then notice other things in the photo that they think are okay or look good. The flower should be the focal point. So all else is null and void. Can't wait to see more with your new camera. Good luck, keep posting, you will learn a lot from this site as we all do.
Thank you John.. Great ideas! I left it this way really because i rather liked the tree and the bird feeder ropes.. but i sure will re-take it, and see if i like it even better.. the flower was taller than me, and i had to bend it a little to get to see the pollen, and that i guess is why i ended up with more top than bottom. maybe i should forget about the feeder, and just take a shot at the flower. I didn't think anyone would know what it was leaning against if i took the ropes out. Ok.. here i go.. back out to the sunflower garden! :) thank you for taking the time to comment!!!
Hi Cindy. I really like it. It looks like a poster. Okay, you want my critique right? Here it is.
The blue of the sky and the ropes in the background are distracting to me. Seeing as you have already ventured out from the land of realism with your in-camera solarizer, how about a little doctoring in PS or PSP to give this sunflower the background and center stage positioning it deserves. What I'm suggesting is to clone out the sky and ropes any way you see fit that will even up the background. Also, your framing looks really good side to side but a little tight on the bottom. No matter. You can correct the tightness on the bottom by cropping a little bit off the top. That's it. Of course seeing as this sunflower is so close at hand, you could also go back out and reshoot it paying special attention to your background.
Good stuff. Looking forward to seeing more from you.
