Excellent...fantastic sharpness and I like the grass in the front being more in focus and then fading to soft in the background, creates a feeling of almost standing there yourself.

Wow, excellent. If full frame horizontal, should be able to get this into a calendar.

Great shot once again. Have to disagree with you regarding the lighting I think it is excellent. It not to harsh therby giving nice detail and contrast in the fur. Way to go.

Jim; you've got a right to be proud of this one-- nice take. What I really like about your wildlife photos is that they are "the real deal"-- the grass, the daisies, and the buck w/ the budding velvet antlers-- all are natural. He looks a bit wet and bedraggled, but I have no doubt that's the way it was. Good shot.

Aah... we can't always have great sunshine, and I think lightning is good! It's a fantastic shot! What I love most is the composition and the contact you got with it! I saw a deer yesterday, not to far away, but I only got a snapshot of it and the deer looks more like an orange spot in big greens than really a deer... hehe. But I keep the photo anyway for myself, because it's really such a great feeling to just SEE them. But back to your shot now, which I think is really a wonderful capture! I am not sure, it could be just my screen, but isn't it lacking a little bit of yellow in colour tones? Or like if it has got just a tiny bit of blue cast?

It doesn't look like the light was very bad. I like this soft lighting for this picture. Great bold colors and your sharpness is excellent. The flowers are the deer makes a wonderful setting. It doesn't seem to be very afraid of you or anything else. Great picture Jim. Don.

Superb shot Jim, Andrew took the words from my mouth. The clarity and saturated colors are superior to many of you previous postings. I'm sure that 300mm has a play in this plus the great lighting conditions. Check your email, Ronnie.

No, no, Jim... an overcast sky is your friend, man! Details can be seen much better under a cloudy sky than under direct sunlight. Overcast diffuses light and saturates your colors, as seen in this fine image. Tack sharp and full of wonder this is (god, i'm sounding like yoda). The soft light and floral expressions add to a markedly different and superior look to your wildlife images. Peace.

I agree, the lighting is great, shadowless and evenly lit. This is a real nice photo. My only teeny suggestion might have been to give a little more breathing room on the left to give the photo a "not centered" look, but again, without seeing it, I can't be sure it would be any better than this.. Great work.

The overcast shawowless light is the best portrait light. Your lucky day and had your camera and stopped and composed and made a wonderful photo for all to enjoy. Well done Jim.

Nice catch! Too bad the light wasn't there to give the eyes a catch light, but the softer light has given the colours better saturation.

I would crop just a smidge off the top to get rid of that buttercup on the edge, a bit more off the left to cut out that daisy in lower left corner, and a tad off the bottom for the little white and yellow blob.

Wondeful shot, very sharp and beautiful colors.

Great shot! Look at it this way: If you'd been shooting on a sunny day, shadows might've interfered with your subject's excellent portrayal. Also, you might've been shooting at a smaller aperture, and your DOF might not have been perfect, as it is now. Great effort!

Wow, this is such a beauty! Wonderful composition and, in spite of the rainy day and the bad light, I like the lightning a lot. The photo looks very natural because of the lightning. The sun don't always shine doesn't it. After a hot day here in The Netherlands I think this is a refreshment, I like it!
