It looks very similar to the place where I live (Slovakia, central Europe), but I never manage to get the winter atmosphere so well as you did here. Very tranquil...

A snowy tranquility. Nice contrast. Well composed. The falling snow adds a nice dimension. :)

Lots of response on this photo. That's great, thank you all. Several questions have been raised and one conspiricy uncovered.
I said this was part of a 360 degree panorama, but I was wrong. I did take several 360's on the same day, (maybe I'll upload one) but this picture was made with only two frames. I have included the uncropped version as an attachment. Sorry about that. Memory is a strange and mysterious creature.
Now that I have blown my credibility, I will tell you that I remember the snowflakes were falling very slowly and were the size of golf balls. That's why they show white against the dark areas and grey against the snow.
To Christian, who uncovered my subterfuge, thanks for keeping me honest. Indeed, I was standing on my porch and that is how I avoided the dreaded out of focus snowflakes close to the lens.
To Andy, you nailed it when you said a sense of quiet. Snow like this deadens sound from the air until all you can hear is the sound of snowflakes. That sound is pure magic.
It was one of those rare winter days that make you glad to be alive. Anyone who has not yet stood still in a quiet snow cathcing snowflakes on their tongue doesn't know what they are missing.

Beautiful evocation of such a wintry mood... Brrr... Wonderfully subdued tones, excellent detail, fine composition... So many great elements to this... The more I look, the more I am drawn into that very distant "lane" between the two masses of trees, disappearing into fog... Such a flip side of rural scenery from where I live, where it is tropical... Extraordinary work.

You must live in a very nice area, lots of nature to see. Where I live we hardly get any snow. I always call it the subtropics of Holland, because temparature is always 5 degrees higher than in the rest of the country.
Very nice shot, I like it.

Great shot John. The image conveys a wonderful sense of quiet. I like the detail you caught on the ground with the driveway. The subtle outline of the driveway really enhances the overall composition. Very nice job.

John, I'm pleased by your composition. At first sight, it looks pretty well balanced between the two houses, but in the middle, our eye soon discovers the open path leading into the picture. This makes the whole picture much more dynamic. It's amazing to see that there is a leading path in the foreground snow - it's pretty hard to achieve that kind of control in lighting. One other thing I like is how you managed to shoot the falling snow. How was it possible not to have big snow flakes halted right in front of the lens, blurring part of the image ? I guess one trick would be to shoot inside a car, with the window open of course. But tell us how you did it since it was a panorama. P.S. I've had the honour to add you to my "Friends' list.

Truly a beautiful capture of a winter's day. The image would not make it without the fence. Color and depth are perfect for me.

hey, you are getting the same weather as here in Saskatchewan John. Very nice work here, excellent exposure and I like how you froze the snowflakes coming down.
