That said; I know that as good as this picture appears on screen, it could have been much, much better. To begin with, I really must buy myself a tripod. That's right! This picture was hand held. Look again. It may have great depth of field, but it's also a little blurry. The Canon PowerShot S10 is a basic auto everything point and shoot digital camera. The file information indicates an exposure of f/5.6 at 1/45 sec. There is a macro setting and I had it turned on. The great depth of field comes from the tiny 12.6 mm focal length (that's the telephoto end of the optical 2 to 1 zoom). I shot the picture with the maximum 2.1 megapixels available and then cropped the subject out of the original without any further resizing. That means the actual print size is tiny; only about 2 1/2 inches sqaure after changing the resolution to a more respectable 170 dpi.
You live, you learn. My critique for this photographer is as follows: Nice capture John. Good vision, wonderful colours, excellent DOF, nicely cropped. Get a tripod!
