One more thing, Kathy. I shot this in black and white. I agree that color would not benefit this image!

Thanks Gayle, I appreciate your comment. The soft light and contrast, as well as his expression, suggest an antique image, made at a time when people were not so used to posing and performing for the camera. To be unselfconscious in public seems lost today, except in the case of children not yet shamed into pretense. I agree on the crop, and may repost. Thanks again!

Thanks for your comment, Marianne. I'm glad you like it. His expresion was so natural and unguarded, and incidentally his position is unposed, though it looks a bit like a studio pose to me. The lighting is all natural, late afternoon coming in from the right across the lake.

Thanks for your comment, Kathy. I agree on a crop, and from the left, though for me yours is a bit tight. I decided to leave it full-frame because I really like the effect of the background context, the vertical grasses on the right and the root diagonals coming in from the left. This is at the expense of a stronger composition, of course. It's not what you leave in but what you leave out that really defines an image, right? I do appreciate your suggestion, Kathy. Thanks for your feedback.

hi, the tonal range is very appealing and his expression is delightful...i also like the setting and the dof...i agree with Kathy's suggestion of off-center crop, but i would crop a bit less

I really like your tones here Tim. I think that this is probably a much better image in b&w than it was in color. Of course, not seeing the color image I'm only guessing. Personally, I think it would be improved by cropping it a little differently. Hope you don't mind if I gave it a try...what do you think?
