Mandy.. you asked me about my water drop photo and what I did and could I share that with you.
Being a film shooter you must know all about shutter speeds and lighting..I am a digital photographer and plied my self diligenty for three four years doing a variety of things with lighting(all natural) and settings to my camera.. in the beginning I was limited only by the equipment I owned.. that has changed considerably
I started out by wanting to photograph birds, and have gone the way of a landscape artist.... not by design by any stretch of the imagination. I simply live in a place that allows this to unfurl like a good painting.
The water drop series that I did was over three years ago and I guess I have averaged 200-6oo phots on any given days since then.I still like the creative side that borders on impossible; the only thing is now I try to step outide the box with macros(sometimes) and mostly natural scenic displays such as canyons, deserts and contrasts.
This photo of yours is soft on the edges with a slight blurring to one side of your face. Having said this Mandy I have to identify that I am not a people photographer and this may be a desired effect.

To Neil Dolman and all others that have commented on this photograph.
It was taken almost three years ago in my kitchen at the sink.. I was bored one rainy grey Sunday. I shot over 400 hundred frames to get seven that I kept.
I actually upon looking back; did not know much about what I was doing.
I got the settings all wrong and did not even have Photo Adobe to tweek this shot!
I used an Olmpus 2100UZ which I do not have any longer but praise it's capabilities highly.
I have a Canon D60 and a 10D now with a variety of lens... and I do also use Adobe exclusively..

Thank you for all your comments on this photo. If I got the apertures and shutter speeds mixed up it is most likely due to my complete "beginner-ism" on this matter. This was shot with a point and shoot Olympus C-2100 UZ and I was trying to get more out of the camera and myself.
I have since moved on to a Canon D60 with three different lens systems and a 10D.
It is back to the beginning for me with no 10x's zoom!
Again I am pleased beyond measure that people appear to like this shot and it gives me courage to push my own envelope even further.

Balboa Park right?Do you like the 16-35 lens?
Great lighting on this shot, nice reflection and slightly off center is super for this type of shot.

I will try to explain what I did with this shot..
I filled the sink(white Porcelin) with tap water to within one or so inches from the top and then created a drip from the tap... I then went even level with the sink on macro setting with a manual aperture setting and manual focus along with the shutter speed change. As I am new to this stuff, I realise now I put my ap and shutter remarks in the wrong places!! Duh!
My ultimate goal was to attempt to capture the drop of water as it explodes on the surface of sitting water. I had natural light from a long and wide bank of windows and I used my flash with that.
There is no colour added to the water and dependant on the angle is the end colour result I got...
I tweaked the saturation by approx 3 and the hue not at all.
I am fascinated by photography and what you can achieve with water..I am not done with this attempt..I took over 300 hundred frames and kept about fifteen.

I am delighted though that so many people have viewed these two photographs.. that makes me think I am on the right track.

Thank you for all your interest in this shot. I am trying the manual settings and PATIENCE is the name of the game with this.. I shot over 300 frames and kept thirty.. I have a few others that are frankly rather wonderful(is one allowed to be that way when a strict amatuer?)
I also saw the small grey blemish that one of you mentioned.. you are right it is unsightly.. must re-do it ...later.
Thank you for your comments and interest.

The top left hand corner is indeed the only bit of blue that was really in the sky at that point.. it made for a reality check on what I was actually seeing..the red simply exploded.
As per the rating.. well the way I see it, if I remark on someone's picture and it is less then what they wish to hear; then they slam what I post as a means of getting back I suppose.
As this is now a karma point system I am bewildered why the ratings are what they are. Some I simply do not understand.
Photography is an art form but it is a pure form of a lens capture.. when manipulation is added or other worldly things that were not in the frame when captured; then it becomes art... that is very subjective in my mind.
Having said that I thank both of you for your feedback and want you both to know that Lee is my husband and I snuck in on his name to post my shot.. the comments are mine not his and the photos for the most part are mine not his.He is a much better photographer then I but I am on a huge learning curve!!

The grainy-ness of this photograph is marvelous and the lighting is so good. I wonder why you do not post the settings and such when you put a photo on here... just a question to ask.Crisp clean lines here... good capture.

Marja ..some of the comments here and ratings are so far left of appropriate it is unbelievable. I think that some people need glasses! However with your shot of this lily you have captured and show the classic crop in a macro frame. Well done... crisp and wonderful to look at.Some could use this as a lesson in WHAT TO DO that is right in photography.Lighing is excellent. Well done!
This is not a comment posted by Lee Horn but his wife.. so do not make the mistake in identifying the writer of this comment.

This is an extremely busy photograph and one that has huge potential but somehow it makes the eye grow weary looking at everything and realising all the colors are so muted.. there is no particular thing that stands out about this one.Sorry to sound harsh but it is my opinion.

This appears distorted and there are many specks on this frame...I realise most are stars but somehow it gives the appearance of dust on your lens.. is it me?Also I am curious about the clarity of this shot...it seems oddly soft focus.

Your horizon is tilted and needs to be straightened... the clours are warm and rich in tone.Right foreground is very dark and you might try cropping some water in the right hand side of this frame tighter.

It is always difficult to capture the true essence of birds of prey as they do not like being watched. This is a good capture of his attitiude but the colours are washed right out.. too bad as this is a great looking bird and the feathers need some saturation to bring out the details.

I was standing in the very dark shadow of a mountain and shooting into very intense light. I was loosing the light very rapidly, the fisherman in the river was in the sunlight when I set up for this shot, in the photo he is in the shadow.

The journey yout take the eye on in this frame is really good. I like the colours, very dramatic approach. The blurring seems more wind created then anything and as you mention appears to add to the drama.. I like the use of the polerizer on this very moody shot.
