Thank you for taking the time to look at this shot, taken when I was quite young and bold (not prudent any more to photograph a group of police in Times Square).
The occasion was, if I recall, a parade in the vicinity. The subjects are all in dress uniforms (gloves). The time is, of course, pre-cellphone.
I do not know the content or reason for the phone call.
the woman on the right. I left her in because, for me, she represents the viewer - her desultory, resigned look, a little impatient, but not quite willing to rush a group af patrolmen from their phone call. Anyway, that's why I left her in. Just another point of view.
Was this taken when they invented the telephone? There seems to be an unusual amount of interest in the device, by the (are they policemen?). They are even all wearing gloves so they don’t tamper too much with the telephone.
Joking aside, this is an interesting photograph of a rather interesting moment in time. A short story of what’s going on would complement this shot tremendously. I think the quality lets it down ever so slightly, it’s a bit dark and also I would have cut the woman out of the shot, it’s just some unnecessary distraction.
