These are good news for sure Ned,
All the best in your exams and with the new lens, I will be waiting for your new posts using it :) Take good care,

Yes .. it's the tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di lens.
I tested it on my 20D at the shop and the result looked excellent on the camera display .. however, you can't really judge the results unless displayed and carefully examined on a computer screen. I still can't find time to do that!! tomorrow is my last midterm exam and hopefully i won't have to be at work during the weekend, so i can go out for a test shoot.
I'll certainly let you know the result and show you some of them :)
Thank you, Ameed.

Thanks a lot for your reply, Ameed.
Actually, those reviews made me think of it, and i wanted to know your personal opinion about it.

In fact, I bought it yesterday!! :)
Hopefully I'll be able to go out and test it soon.

Best kind,
Nedhal

Hi Ned,
Actually what you see is what i've got from the camera acutely, no blurring added by PS, and the reason I kept the lower part, is to show the variation power of the DOF, I had the Minimum depth of field project in mind when I took this one, If i remember right, I think the only think i've done in PS was cropping, rotating, and darkening the sky a little.
Now about this lens, it is amazing by all means,
I was wondering if i should get this one or the IS one, and I faced the same question, IS or the 2.8?!
I found out that a faster lens is much better than a slower one with IS, which is better in low light condition or in doors shots '' which i am sure you will be using it allot ''.
Also I've read the comments on http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/ I found out many says there that the Tamron sometimes even perform better than the cannon '' not all the Tamron but only this lens compared to cannon in the same range. The only lenses that might be compared to the this Tamron is the L glass lenses from Canon, which still slower. I bought this one and to be honest, I am fully satisfied, I would highly recommended, It is fast, sharp and the built feels like a Tank :) don't hesitate at all, read the reviews and go for it.
Regarding the Canon 10-22, I am thinking about this Lens as well, but the only disadvantage of it is if I moved in the close Future to a full frame digital camera, this one wont work on it, it works only with the EOS with smaller sensors 1.6 crop factor and so on, SO to be honest, I am not sure if I might get it, I might get the Sigma 10-22, the Canon is a little better, and wider, but the Sigma is almost the same performance but much much cheaper ..
Please let me know your decision, I hope you found my answer useful,
Kind regards,
Ameed,

Ned Ali Ned Ali   {K:11928} 2/20/2006
creative use of shallow dof!
have you enhanced the dof using PS?
i like the square composition of Jason's .. but i would even crop more from the bottom to get red of the dark shadow.

i've been thinking of replacing my 300D kit lens (18-55mm) with a better one .. basically i'm after the canon 10-22mm and that means i need another lens to bring the focal length to about 70mm .. i thought about the canon 17-85mmIS, but this tamron lens has the advantage of being faster with f/2.8.
how do you like the lens: focusing speed, sharpness, body build ... ?? do you recommend it?

Sorry Jason, When i read your first comment it was on E-mail, I didn't recognize that you already submitted your version.
To be honest, I like yours more :)
You are totally right about the washed sky,
Maybe because I always used to take good use of the sky on previous composition, so I never considered doing a sky cropping, but ni this picture we are talking about .. you are 100% right, thanks buddy and I really appreciate your honest feedback,

Ameed this is a exceptianioal photograph !
The angle from which you took this from is great and the dof and focal point you chose here are perfect.
I like the out of focus leaves up front and then the soft background.
The leaves in focus are just that.....sharp as a tack with a illumination to them.
I tip my hat to you and this fine shot.
Photo of the day for me.

No doubt in my mind Ameed, it's certaily the photographer's talent that stands out not the lens.
Thanks alot for your recommendation and it is worthwhile to know that about the aperture of 2.8, because we usually look for such fast ones in certain conditions.

Best regards.

  0

Jason Mardell   {K:1113} 10/31/2005
Ameed - I guess it is a personal thing. The sky is grey and featureless but the ground is full of nice texture and colour so I'd just concentrate on that. I think it's more striking that way as the The washed out sky detracts from it otherwise - just an opinion though :-)

Ameed El-Ghoul Ameed El-Ghoul   {K:42215} 10/31/2005
HI Ozjan,
I don't know boddy, for me any landscape without sky is not complete :) Btw, I would really appreciate it if you can show me an example of the tight cropping you would like to see, as i've been recieving this comment recently ..
Btw, did you see the about ? :)

Ameed El-Ghoul Ameed El-Ghoul   {K:42215} 10/31/2005
Hi Omair, I don't count totally on the Lens Omair, It is the shooting technique and what i do after that on the PS. But of course I would recommend this lens 100% wonderful for its resonable price. And btw, I could've got more DOF strength if I raised the aperture to 2.8, but the background got too much distorted .. so I kept it to 4.
Thanks Omari :)
