About This is my first photo of a spiral staircase. I've seen many and thought I'd have a go at one. It kind of plays with my eyes as to whether it's looking up or down. Do you think it's an optical illusion?

Ann, if you would really like to explore the MF world, visit the www . araxfoto . com site (closing up the spaces, of course!). This is the cheapest MF option that is worth pursuing... There is a photo of one of these cameras in my portfolio--a bit blurred and grainy because I took it with my mobile phone! It does require lots of tender loving care (but I'm sure you would be good at that).

BTW, this is a very fine photo of a spiral staircase and eventually I understood your question about optical illusion. At first I could only see it one way... Now I can see what you mean.

Yeah --- Scotty's Castle! I took a similar shot on my first visit there. :) I love spiral staircases, and you've done this one justice.

This type of shoots is very difficult! Even with fine quality wide angle optics
Cause of imperfect design. I like the stairs great rapid flow.
Well done.

Harry

Thanks for stopping by Erik. Scotty's Castle is in Death Valley, California. There are many many things to photograph there. You may a few dollars for a tour and it's well worth it. Cheers - Ann :)

Thanks Len. This was my first shot of a spiral. I too saw others here so in keeping with the theme I thought I'd post my take on it. Cheers - Ann :)

That's neat, Ann. There have been a number of spiral staircase shots on usefilm recently and it's always worth having a look at different takes on the same theme. Good shot.

Hi Bob, I'm glad you went to Scotty's Castle. It's well worth the trip there and taking the tour. There are great photo opportunities all around that place. A bit too much Hollywood corn in the tour now but the camera is busy clicking away all the time. Thanks for your comment. Cheers - Ann :)

Great shot, Ann. This one looks very, very familiar, as it should... I've got one just like it. :-) As previously stated, I love DV!

On a slow country side dial up... as this uploads... one sees the view from 'down-under' 4sure... which no Up or Down or an Optical Illusion... but who knows what...

well seen from upstairs!

Ann -- Nice capture! It is an optical illusion. I had to look twice to be certain of the direction. Here is a link to another spiral staircase that you may enjoy. This one looks like an eye. http://www.usefilm.com/image/628770.html

Thank you Dariusz, YEs I'd like to explore the Med format world but unfortunately my lifestyle won't allow for more study so I just play with what I have.

Thank you Ina for your comment and the congrats. I was very flattered and honoured to see I made the front page. I be a fat head now (haha) :)

Good composed . Like it very much. In photos like this we can only regret that we do not have mid format camera 67 or 645 to do without cropping compromises.

mundh, this was taken in Death Valley at Scotty's Castle. It's a great place well worth the visit and touring if you go to Death Valley in California.
