Very nice idea in using a sheet of white paper... I like very much the composition... The colors are really great... Normally, I do not read the comments before I comment but today do not why, I began to read and I got to your exchange of ideas with Hugo... (So I will be not much objective if i continue commenting on you pic...) But I did like very much Hugo's idea of creating waves with the paper... Also went to the link... :) So, today I learned a lot from both of you... And for me that makes this image the best... :)
Take care,
MaLuisa

I have looked at both of these, and I can say that I like the other better. Even though the capture of the flower itself is gorgeous, may I suggest a nice long crop of the tulip alone? The shadow is a turn off for me as it distracts my eye, too dark and it just doesn't go with the flow...

Danny,
Well, I uploaded a photo just for you, but you ignored it...
I thought you'd like this. It's simple: daylight, a tulip and a blank sheet of paper. To get simpler than that, remove tulip. Then you'd have a photo of a blank sheet of paper.
Come to think of it... interesting idea! ;)

The idea are very good and the composition as well.... and the look that they try to "reach" each other. But for me it?s too hard contrast, the shadow too dark and no information in the white part.

Hi Angelo, with a vertical frame and a bit of tape, you can also create a wavy effect in the sheet of paper, which could be fun to play with to create unusual effects:)
Thanks for your replies too!

Hugo

Hey Hugo,
Excellent and considered comment, once again!
All I had was a vertical frame where I hung the A2 sheet of white paper. The only choice I had was of it' turning it sideways. I had no option to tilt the background forwards or backwards, so it never even crossed my mind... "When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail", goes the old saying!
So I turned it until the light was raking across it and I like the shadow :)

Hi Angelo, Very creative set up. I like the natural (i think) selective colour - like image, with the nicely saturated tulip, and the blurry shadows on the sheet of paper. For the composition, the countering shape of the shadow works pretty well, but it also does center the overall composition, removing the dynamism a bit, as well as introducing a symmetry between the placement of the subjects. Also, I think the tone of the tulip's shadow is a bit harsh, although I don't think that affects the image much. I think a different angle of the sheet of paper to the light (tilted forward, perhaps) would've changed the effect of the shadow dramatically, enabling you to plan the placement of the shadow in the current composition. I'm sure you thought of that, too. Wonder if you have any other versions....
Thanks for triggering my mind again...:)
Cheers,
Hugo
