About I'm pretty convinced that this happy looking heron was the cause of some unhappy pond owner in Cheshire this week!

This was taken on the recent canal trip I've been on, and is about the only decent wildlife shots I got. Just ain't got the lens for this kind of thing, I'll have my 70-200F2.8 L one day :-)

The autfocus on my old 50-200 isn't too sharp - this would have been a far more effective shot had it been at F2.8 with a very blurred background, but at F5.6 it didn't do a bad job.

Definitely the Decisive Moment for that fish

Marie, behave yourself, it would be taking off with its "tail" on fire if it was in my back garden lol

Fabulous decisive moment Ade, it would certainly be a decisive moment for the heron if it tried anything like that in my pond.

I have three Japanese "Ninja" Koi carp and the heron would leave with a knot in its neck !!!

cheers alastair - just off on a weekend shoot. If you're bored could keep an eye out for a spare bed - I know 2 who have dropped out.

here's another shot of the bird

See you next week

Hey this is brilliant Ade! Pretty decisive moment for the bird too if the owner of that fish catches him! Love the one of the bird flying off too!

Cheers den

not a lot of chance for the usual style - darn weather, not one sunset or even any decent light. Was shooting at ISO 800 yesterday - unheard of... and with no filters, just so the shutter was fast enough not to blur.

big sigh!

here's when the heron took off

Not your usual style Ade but a terrific capture anyway. Nicely detail and well exposed. I had better keep this one from my boss cos Herons keep emptying his fishpond. He reckons there's only one way to shoot them - with a 12 bore. They do seem to be social outcasts among other birds too.

You did a great job. Excellent composition, well done. A big fish for a big bird.
