About Dedicated to Carlheinz Bayer who knows how to shoot musicians!...Abstraction of some Jazz musicians...changed tone to B/W...i like the noise from extreme crop blowup and contrast level tweaking, but maybe you don't? Serious critiques are most encouraged..any comments appreciated, too (do you think this is right project? i couldn't decide )

OMG - I LOVE this shot - wow, you can feel the energy here! Just amazing. Great shot. I actually love this crop (as you know). It allows you to place anyone in the shot. The noise adds to the action for that gritty feel of a paper. I really love this.
And - thank you for all your comments Gale. I do appreciate them.

Gayle,

This is another fantastic photograph, I much like the harsh grain effect with the black and white offset...it truly adds a bit more to this photo. well done

For me? Thank you!!! And yes, no doubt that this works great. Must admit that nothing beats real grain, but why not simulating it with the help of SW. Has a great feeling and the contrast is spot on. The only thing I would do (and that's my personal opinion and others will hate me for that...)...I would get rid of the mic.
Great work my friend!

Good silvery effects here Gayle. I like how for my eyes things merge here, like the bass with the cymbal. Reminds me that seeing a band from angles such as this at gigs can be beautifully confusing.

yes,saw the movie and get your references...funny you should mention Miles as that is first person who came to mind after i did the crop because it seemed so avant garde...glad you like and thanks!
(and stay away from time machines sold on ebay like in movie Napoleon Dynamite!...LOL..)

I think the contrastiness and noise suits the subject very much. Good tight crop. Very reminescent of that era. I LIKE it. Cheers, Ann.

Nice shot sis! I think Neal's comments are right on: this is in the groove, as this shot reflects a gritty angularity that not only suggests the cubist,multi-layered/dimensional quality but more specifically the collage work of that great painter of the Harlem Renaissance, Romare Bearden.

To paraphrase Mel Mezzrow, with this photo you "...put some cut in your strut, some glide in your stride, and take(took) this baby home for a ride." !

Bright Moments!

Nice composition. I think the contrast might be a little too much for my taste, but the grain and B&W treatment work well. It gives it a vintage feel that fits with the subject matter.

Dear Gayle, yeah, I like it. It's very coooool. Like jazz. I always like what you do (effects) to your work - Miles would be proud. It's SHOWTIME folks (All That Jazz - the film), Mark PS. opps forgot to take that handful of pills - like Bob Fosse (hope you saw the film or this is all gonna sound stupid) AND yes, CB is the master of stage shots (too bad there's no time machines to go back to the late 60's)

I agree. The higher contrast and grain fits the gritty feel of a jazz club. Great lighting. Well done my dear Shameless.

I like it. I like the harsh gritty quality that is reminiscent of club spotlights. I think the tight cropping gives it a sort of cubist feel, with hands and shapes and divisions all over the place. I'd call it a very successful interpretation of jazz harmonies and rhythms and thus...abstract. Like all your work, it's enviably excellent.

Oh, I love this one, Gayle! I'm not just saying that because you're my friend, this is excellent! It's got a great feel to it, don't know how to explain it. To favorites!!
