About "Capão Forro" is the name of a waterfall just outside the National Park. This tree located at the edge of one of the pools off the waterfall's run-off caught my eye. On location it was really beautiful, great setting.

The image has turned out to be nothing as good as I expected it to be. There is very little separation between the tree and the background. I wanted to show how it is located on a ledge at the very edge of the pool. That hasn't come throug strongly.

What could/should I have done to make this better?

In PS I have used quick layer with gradient tool to apply different blended layers with layer style, to the main tree and the foreground separately.

I have also applied a contrast curve and a channel mixer that enhances greens, then duotoned it.

Help, please!

I don't really know what you could do - I'm not good at this kinda stuff. I actually like the colour one you included better. I always say that when faced with such a complicated issue a trip to the local Pub is most likely your best option (nothing like a nice Lager or 2 to reset the brain waves) Cheers, Mark

very nice shot I really like the tones and detail, the only think I could think to make a perticular subject stand out would be to leave it in color and desaturate the surrounding area...

I think the work that Thilo did helps bring out the image fairly well... I know the frustration of not being able to capture what you see sometimes... your photo really brought out some good exchange of ideas..

Guilherme.

Thanks Thilo. I've applied your suggestions, then removed the channel mixer at Márcia's request. It's attached above. Whadyathink? I'm not convinced if I can salvage this one...

The only other thing you could have done Angelo is bin it.Seriously it is sometimes annoying that our cameras both film and digital can not portray the beauty our eyes see. We then have 2 choices bin it or shout for help. unfortunately I am not clever enough to assist with your second choice Presumably colour does not help with the separation of the elements.

Hi Angelo,

I duplicated the background layer and blended it with hard lights. maskes out some dark parts.
Then I added a curve layer and lowered the overall brigthness.
Then I added a solid gray layer and blended it with "overlay". masked out everything besides the overbright grass in the foreground.

Not sure if you like this ;-)

Thilo
