Roger,
Thanks for taking the time to read and look. Excellent question, and you already answered it yourself: yes, it is iron in the water. The water comes up from extensive underground sheets, through calcareous rocks and picks up iron along the way.
Regards, Angelo.

An astonishing image. I appreciate the detailed "abouts;" they greatly increase my enjoymnent, but I would like to know what causes the very intense orange-brown colour. Is it iron in the water?

Gosto da composição, mas principalmente da perspectiva. O melhor ainda é o controle de luz, que você resolveu muito bem parabéns e bom final de semana

Danny,
I now learned to work with layers, so I can always open the TIFF file and check out what each layer does, or even change/disable/add an alternative layer for an alternative effect.
Cheers! Angelo.

Yes Angelo you are just about there with it. Will you remember how you achieved it or will you have to refer to notes as I do. I supose it will not be noticed on an A4 print.

Fantastic. It looks like the ground is on fire with the water next to it. Beautiful colours and composition. Thankyou so much my friend for your comments. And congratulations for making front page the other day. I did see it but didn't get time to congratulate you until now.

Nice work Angelo, There is a bit of trouble top left. looks like some left over PS artifacts.. Perhaps this would have been a good canidit for a grad ND or Circ Polorizer... After reading further I now understand... Are you familiar with NIK Color Efx Pro? It is a PS plug in.. THere is a grad ND filter in it that ight be useful on this one.... You can download the program as a demo from NIK's website...
Cheers for now, and thanks you for constructive comment on my "Hot Wheels" Post...

Great shot and reflection Angelo.. The sky seemed a little weird to me until I read your about... You did a great job there, but viewing the sky reflection in the water, in my must humble opinion, it seems a little out of place... Overall... I love the composition and the place is beautiful...
Cheers,

Thanks for the excellent tip, Ian.
I never really quite understood the colour replacement thing. I've never been able to actually use it. I still can't :-S
But you spurred me to try and find a solution, and I think I've something that works in this case. Since the fringing is introduced by a blended layers containing a copy of the sky area (magic wand selection), what I have done is:
1. Go into the background layer 2. Select a generous area around where the "fringing" has occurred 3. Feather by 30 4. New layer via copy 5. Move this new layer above the blended layer 5. Set a blending mode of "Saturation", Opacity 80%
Here's a detail from the top left corner with this treatment.
Maybe you can explain to me in small workds how to use this colour replacement thing.

Hi Angelo, a nice travel shot, seems really remote and wild. Has a digital Velvia look to it. The blue fringing is something I have had to deal with scanning slides and it can be helped by selecting the area manually and then experimenting with colour replacement. I had a really quick go and attach the result (I mean really quick!). From here I would do a bit more work on a large version touching in with a fine nib or very small and almost transparent clone brush. I think this is retrievable and the shot is worth the effort. Cheers, Ian

Danny,
I'm not too hot on the PS stuff myself, but it's the best I could do out of the mess I made capturing it. At first look the sky was solid white.
And I loved the rest of the picture (reflection, low angle etc) too much not to try and salvage it.
As for too many submissions, I curse the damn 3-a-day limit. I have such a big queue of stuff to upload!
My sugestion: get some touch-typing lessons! :)

I think not your best ps work Angelo. Whilst the pic is interesting and the history very informative i am not too keen on the blue bushes top left hand. Perhaps you have tried to get too much out of it. incidentally slow down a bit. It takes me ages to type and you have so many super images - all worthy of comment
