About	Memorial day in the USA. For those of you not from the USA, this holiday originated right after the Civil War in the 1860's. It was originally intended as a day to honor those who died while fighting in that war. Later it was expanded to include deaths from all wars. Various days were designated in different states over the years but a date of May 30 was finally selected. In the l970's that was changed to the last Monday in May, primarily to insure a 3 day holiday for workers. While it is still primarily a day to honor those who died in military service, it now is a day honoring all dead. It is also a day many express patriotism by flying flags. Many people clean and decorate the graves of all family and friends, not only those associated with the military. I took the attached photo today during my walk. The house is at the entrance of a community called Stonewall Manor named for Stonewall Jackson a Civil War General.
