hahaha.. had to laugh about your "about" and the raccoon tan... what else is spring skiing/boarding for? This is a very cool shot... love the multiple exposures and the way they just seem to appear in the middle of the shot and extend out to the edge. The yellow is an added bonus splash of colour that works well with the blue sky.

Phil,
Distortion or not, the wider the lens, the more effect you get, its natural. Shouldn't matter how much distortion you get. They have rectalinear fisheyes as well... where you get all 180 degrees, but the distortion is minimal at best. But because its a fisheye, it allows you to get in close and make things look bigger.
I think that the trick your doing here is fine. I just think the the placement of the photographer in relation to you is a problem. I say get WAY closer. or get the angle from the far left so that you can get it at a perpendicular.
Cheers, Toby

thanks for viewing and commenting andree, i will have to agree with you as per everyone else thinks to get rid of the right hand side of the image, i enjoy it, the detail in the cornace the different layers of snow fall and it gives the composition a much more open landscape feel which is what i was going for, not just the rider me doing a snowboarding trick.. .thanks again for the great comment and posting what i had in mind when i set up the shot for the shoot

tobiah, this is at 10mm which in actuality is 16mm cause of the 1.6x factor of the camera body, the only difference between your shots and mine is that i dont have the convex look of the fisheye cause of the astropheric on the lens compensates for the distortion.. the opacity thing on other images creates a muddled composition which i have worked with quite a bit and dont seem to like the results,
maybe i have to just go bigger or put a reference point, say a snowmo or a person standing below or something to give demensions huh....???
go bigger

What a fantastic image.
Perfect capture of the progression of the jumping action. The exposure is Beautiful and the perspective adds to the drama of the image.
I personally like the space on the right side of the frame because it gives scale and demonstrate the daring scary sport that snow boarding is... It also fits as part of the composition's design.
I am in awe... Regards, Andree

Phil...
Your wide angle makes the gap look smaller? I don't think you're using the right lens then. IF anything a wide angle lens, fisheye in particular will make it look much much bigger. Any wide angle with a bit of distortion makes the distances between each side of the frame exagerated to seem much larger than it really is. This is exactly the reason that skate, snow, surf photos use them.
If you're having trouble with the overlapping... try and make every other frame seem like its Opac (sp?) You'll still get the idea, and the frames you want can sit on top.

hey tobiah, thanks for viewing and commenting on my image, i agree with you totally backside 1's are the most underated trick in riding... as to the closeup with the lens, i have some that use the full effect of the fisheye but i cant really create sequence shots with them cause the rider overlappes as per shooting straight on or not wide enough to shoot from the side, ill upload one tomorrow for example,
it also makes the jump look meager and small... when in actuallity its a ten foot drop and about a twenty foot air.. thanks again for commenting

Nice sequence. I would consider cropping the past image of the rider of the pic, or crop about a third of the right half of the image.

Phil,
You gotta get people in WAY closer with those nice wide lenses. Use all the angle you have and really make em look Steezy.
Like the trick... most underRated trick in snowshredding.
