Thanks for the kind words Darryl ! Yes, its the rut out here, usually Mid Sept thru Mid October. Im no stranger to wild animals in mountainous terrain, and is exactly why i use the 70-200 2.8, on the DX body it gives me 300mm on the top end. Plenty of room to keep safe :) The above image is about a 75% center crop, the critter was approx 40 - 50 yds away. More concerned with his ladies than me.

James, very nice capture of this elk. With all the velvet of his antlers and the colors in the back ground, I would guess that it is rut season. Not a good time to be very close to this animal. A wonderful moment frozen in time. Darryl
