About Burrowing Owls
(Speotyto Cunicularia)

Coruja - Owl
Buraqueira - Burrowing

These three beauties are resident at my step-father Louis's golf club (Clube Capixaba de Golf - www.golfes.com.br)

Louis was showing Jas and I around the course, when these fellows came out of their burrow to check us out. I crouched, focused and waited until all three were looking straight at me.

PS work: crop, Levels, some layer work to bring back some brightness in the eyes.

Wonderful shot, I love the way you have captured them intently watching you. I don't think I have ever seen them on ground like this. Alison

Thilo, I see no difference whatsoever between them. It looks the same to me both at home and on my monitor at work.

Hi Angelo,

I checked the image with PS and there are some strong hills in the 140-190 parts. when using auto-levels, PS does move these hills to the left, giving the birds a more bold look. I attach the image. this looks a tad better on my screen at home than the original one.

hope that helps in any way...

Hi Angelo,

well, maybe my monitor is too bright. This is definitely possible. Although I thought that at least my LCD @ home is good ;-)

I calibrated the monitor using a hardware tool (colorvision spider). It's possible that this tool did some damage to the screenie ;-)

best thing you can do is check your UF pictures with other monitors (work, friends, etc.) and see if there is something wrong.

Hi Thilo,

Thanks for your critique.

I've looked again, done a histogram, and it doesn't look overexposed to me... I must re-calibrate my monitor.

Cheers!
Angelo.

Hi Angelo,

awesome nature shot, great trio infernale here. they keep you focussed =)

as for the brightness, I fear you did too much. the image looks overexposed, at least at my calibrated monitor at home.

anway, nice catch!

best wishes,

thilo

Wow, what a fantastic image. Well spotted and a great idea to take from a low angle to put the background out of focus.
