Hi Luis,
Thank you so much for taking the time to go back through my portfolio to comment on my images. It is so nice when people go through a large amount of images like you did, instead of simply commenting on the latest image posted. What I find remarkable is that you have picked three of my personal favourite Black and White images.
It is my youngest son with the guitar, my wife of over 30 years with the umbrella, and this truck is the first vehicle I learned to drive. All three of these are emotional favourites for me :)
The image you attached is definitely taken in a similar spirit to a few of my old truck images. When I look at these trucks, I can imagine the way humans have touched the steel to give them character. I don't mean just the design, but the purpose of the vehicle. In the case of your three, they have most likely been through weddings, funerals, picnics as well as faithfully driven their owners back and forth to earn a living somewhere. It is not just three rusty cars that we are looking at. :) Andre

Hi Ina, Thanks for the support and the compiments! Memory is what this one is all about! I have this one framed with a print on double weight polycontrast paper, approx 5x7. The only difference being the framed version is B&W. It's just as dark and moody, but I might even prefer this dark brown version. I printed the original around 1972, when taking some photo arts courses at Ryerson. Andre

Amazing shot and beautiful story Andre! Wonderful memory! Great dark tone sepia - it really suits the subject. I have turned one of my pictures to a sepia and then to a dark brown, I like them both, it just seems so "natural." Best regards, Ina BTW - I love this portfolio!

Toni, The good thing is, you will be surprised what you can do with your old stuff in Photoshop. And it costs you nothing. If it doesn't work out delete. Andre

Went and looked at it again (30-40-50 mph). It is great to see this one from the outside. Resurrecting the past sound like a rewarding thing to do. I was thinking the other day about digging some of my old gems out and posting. One was from my first photo class, a black and white assignment on texture and tone in 1971. I think I got a "B" or a "C" and I was thinking it would be fun to put it up for rating again. (To be honest, I think it would get a "C"...lol).

Hi Toni, Thanks for all your nice "catch-up" comments. I don't know if you noticed, but this image is another view of the same truck that I posted an interior image of a couple of months ago, called "30-40-50-Mph". Also the other image close by with the broken glass is from the interior of this same truck. I'm really happy with the way these images came out with some digital manipulation. I do have paper prints of most of these that I made years ago and I'm glad they are getting this new life today. I will be going back to this same spot tomorrow after not being there for many years. It will be interesting to see what is left, if anything.
Thanks again, Andre

What a fantastic memory. The headlights are so friendly, and the car seems to have a personality all its own -- is he chewing on grass? I feel like waving hello. This is just my kind of nostalgia -- I could sit and stare at this for eons. LOVE IT! The crop seems just right -- the composition has loads of punch. Antonia

Thanks Mark,
I doubt it can be rescued now. I took this picture almost 35 years ago. I will be in that area on Sunday, so, I'll see what's left.

It needs to be rescued, restored. A sad sight, but a photographic triumph.

Petal, Thanks for the comment.
I thought about evening it up by chopping off some of the left side, but I decided against doing that. I really wanted to save that little bit of detail on the passenger side fender (turn signal light). I knew it was off centre, but couldn't bring myself to crop it. Ideally I should have had a little more on both sides, but I can't go back 35 years to get it. Actually I will be going back to that area in a couple of weeks. But I'm betting, if the truck is still there, it won't look anything like this anymore.

Wonderful shot!! Great tone and composition!! Looks like this former farmers pride and joy isn't going anywhere anymore... a pitty... well captured!!! (One tiny but: it's not completely centred, maybe crop it a little on the left...)

Hi Aaron,
Thanks for visiting and commenting. Yes, I think this type of equipment is most interesting and photogenic just before it completely falls apart to the point of being unrecogizable. When lights and instruments are still intact and windshields are still in place. But, you just can imagine another few years down the line. This old truck ain't going nowhere anymore. Andre

thats cool. i like old stuff that sits there. the farm i used to work at had old machines rusting away. when i first started there there were these two farmall diesels that we had to pull around for an hour to get them to run... they have been sitting in the back field for about 10 years now. its hard to beleive how they rust away and sink into the ground. great capture...
