Hi Adrian, thanks for the comments on all my shots, including this one! I'm not sure exactly what PSA stands for, maybe Photographer's Society of America? That's just a guess! I would like to get the shots away from the feeder, but with these small birds it's very difficult, even in the backyard, so I'll take what I can get! I was about twenty or so feet away and had the camera in macro mode with full zoom and the Olympus Tcon 1.7 teleconverter, no hide, just standing very still! I've found that if the birds initially fly away, they eventually come back if you don' move. Even then, the Chickadee only seems stand still in one spot for a few seconds at a time. My feeders aren't close enough to the house to shoot from a window, and in any case I've found that "through the glass" shots are lacking in quality in many cases. Hope that answers a few of your questions Adrian, and thanks for your interest! Dave.

This is another classic, Dave, captures characteristic behaviour, a delight to view as it must have been to witness. It's details like the seed in the mouth that make it rewarding to return to again and again. What's the PSA (as in Richard Thornton's comment)? In days of yore, I came across the idea that nature pics were somehow less worthwhile if not taken 'in the wild', yet since the garden is the natural habitat of many birds, shots like this seem perfectly valid. I'm interested to know, do you use any sort of hide? Are they taken from inside a building or through a window, or do you just stand in full view of your subjects? And, how far away are you from the birds? (You can see I'm planning to try and give you a run for your money!)

Great dof, great composition, and amazing tones. Chikadees are very forward little birds, mine will come right next to me when I fill the feeder and yell at me. I am surprised he is so patient. He looks like he has such an indignant expression on his face. Love it. Alison

Dave: Nice catch! We get these same species on our deck all the time. I haven't caught them together. The Chickadees hang out with the Pygmy Nuthatches all the time here.

You have some remarkable nature images, but different from the PSA dictum of no hand of man evident. Instead, you show animals interacting with man's constructions. Good idea.

Good shot of these two beautiful birds. I like how the one on the left is looking at the camera. Good shot! DOF is great, allowing the foremost bird to pop out of the image.
