About I'm beginning to think that this has got to be one of the most photogenic breed of spiders I have run across. Beautiful colors, beautiful markings. Pretty big too:) I caught this guy spinning his web on my walk to work. I ran and got my camera and we had a little photo shoot. I caught him here in the highlights shining through the tree's. I was close enough to him that my exposure meter got it right without blowing out the photo and turning him into a sillouette.

In photoshop I did normal color correction and sharpening than I used the ellipticcal marquee tool to draw an oval around the spider. I then inversed the selection and ran a radial blur effect on the selection. . I added a frame and presto you have "In The Photographers Eye"

I was originally going to put this in the Square Picture Project and changed my mind and put it in Unusual Vision. What do you think? Square or Unusual?

Shutter Speed 1/40 sec.
Aperture F/4.5

Look at him for a while, he's hypnotizing:)

Hope you enjoy!

i just saw this tyoe of spider in pennsylvania a few weeks ago, and i htought it was the oddest and coolest spider i have seen. i am so happy to see it here! do you know what kind of spider it is?? too bad you oculdnt pull the focus back just a tinch and put the pattern in focus - i love the symmetry and detail.

James: You were cooking with this one. It's definitely unusual and square format wouldn't do it justice, I think.

Fabulous capture Jim, the colours really are fantastic and this is a wonderful macro :-)

Good question about the Project - another contender could be minimal dof. I may have gone for the square image, but it does not matter - I would not have missed this one :-)

Best wishes,
Steve

An excellent find Jim! What a beautiful *shiver* spider! I think you did fine with the "unusual vision" category, even though I really have no idea what the "square picture project" is! Excellent capture with remarkable colors and once again excellent work my friend! :)
