Excellent macro, Jim! A very different colour blue from the ones we see here, and wings seem to be a different texture, too.

Nice macro. How close to that guy were you to get this spectacular shot?

I am not sure I agree that flipping it makes it better. It feel it sort of builds up to the most interesting if you move left to right rather than drifting into less interesting. Del.

Beautiful details on this dragonfly. I can't beleive how clear the little hairs are. Outstanding colors as well. :)

Thank you Igor. The trick is to hide behind the tripod and inch up a little at a time. Taking a photo everytime before you move closer. That way if you scare him you still have a picture or two that you can use. It also helps to use as long a lens as you can. In this instance I was using a 100 mm. macro with an extension tube but he was a pretty large dragonfly and I really never got to use the effects an extension tube will offer. (magnification) Hope this helps:)

I have seen recently a lot of nice pictures of dragonflies and this one is among the best. how you approche them so close

I felt it too.. Some times its really hard to get a good compositon with subjects like this

It looks very similar to the common blue damselfly we get in the UK, but the blue on this one is much deeper. I've got lots of failed pictures of damselflies and dragonflies, so I've got a lot of respect for you capturing this one so well. I prefer it facing to the right, as this leads you into the interesting bit. I might have been tempted to try and remove the white bit in the top left corner using a clone brush in P'shop, but that's a minor detail. Very nice.

Thanks Siddhardha, I did play around with the rotation and couldn't decide what to do. I ended up keeping it as originally captured. Unfortunately he didn't give me the best of composition options to work with:)

Excellent shot. I guess if you flip the pic it would be much better. When i started looking from left to right i kind of felt its only at the end i see some thing interesting. IF you can flip it and keep the head on left side it kind of gives a little more attention to subject. Just my two cents... Excellent shot and i really enjoyed looking pics on your gallary...
