About The sounds of Auckland at 3 a.m. in the cramped Cause Celeb at 11 p.m., at the savoy, in Dunedin.
Imagine a guitarist who can stop his chords like S.R. Vaughn playing in a Jazz Quintet.
Always a joy to see him play.
No recording yet has really got across what his live stuff does.
At one point I thought he'd lost it just started accelerating and thrashing away like any one can do when they're trying to play too loud, like driving on ice and then steps back straight in line. Improv with Joel is like that.

Very nice mood to this portrait. I love how the piece of his face, arm and the guitar are lit up, it really seems to tell his story. Alison

Without having heard him play but then if he is around the late great SRV then his sky can cry for me. What I like then in context is the sheer grunt of the image. It has that retro back to the classic album cover/poster promo like umm was it Neil Freeman? who shot a lot of Beatles stuff for Revolver and Rubber Soul? Its big its raw it hard hitting rough club dark black smoke scene. Perfect for a big man round a guitar. 6

Who knows what the developers did so far as pushing it. There are delicious chrystals in the original and this is a crop primarilly to show them but from 1100 d.p.i. to 800 a lot were lost.
Re change of style one of the reasons I came here was the music. I don't think the digital I had with it's lens, low i.s.o.s and cramped manual focus could have pulled this off. It's a forced change and a more restricted format and that's fine.
One of the reasons I came to Dunedin was its music. All our best four track indy bands from the eighties came from here.
Don't know about floating photos of strangers but I figure once somebody's on stage they are fair game for floating on the net.
Must send copies of this shoot to them.

I like documentary photos. I see that you are going to change your style :-). This is so grainy that I can imagine in 2x1 m size on the wall for the effect. Pushed 3 stops at least? :-)
