About The architecture is great and I really liked the perspective, angle and contrast of the two buildings. I took this right after sunset when there was just a bit of light in the sky yet it was dark enough for the lights to be turned on.

No PS work

Lee.. I would just shoot away.. that is what is great about digital.. You can experiment and try taking the image at different ISOs to see how it comes out. That is why I love digital over my "old" film camera..

Thank you Paul, next trip I'm going to try it at maybe 600 on a early or late day animal shot.
I don't know why I'm so afraid...these shots usually don't turn out great anyways due to the low light.

Lee, the image is great at full resolution.. when I had to downsize it for usefilm it started to get noise or distortions from the compression.. so I had to use Neat image on it (I rather not do it) however, the actual image does not have any noise.

Thanks Lee..well the 800 usually is ok with the Canon 10D (I heard that the new 20D has very low noise all the way up to 1600!) Of course, i try not to use the higher ISOs but when your without a tripod you have to do what you can. I have not shot too many animal photos lately, need to buy a better long range zoom and start taking some :)

Very nice again Paul, you do well getting those golden tones.
And again 800 iso...how's this image look at full resolution?
I'm going to get the courage up to shoot some morning shots of animals at a higher iso.
These posts of yours at 800 iso are great.

Paul,

Thanks for your comments on "Cold and Foggy Morning".

I also thought that the Archtecture in Paris was amazingly photogenic. Could have spent a whole week or more photographing everything in sight. Unfortunately I only had about 3 hours to wander around the area near my business hotel.

Love this one - I said to a friend that I thought there were some great similarities with the Architecture in Oxford, England. Watch out for one of my slides later today to show you what I meant.

Clarity is amazing!...love the warm lighting contrasting with the dark blue sky (kind of an orange glow which is very complimentary with blue in a composition!)..perspective is very appealing..quite the ornate bldg. on the right..like the arched doorways and the acanthus ornamentation at the capital section of the columns..congrats!..gayle

Hugo, thanks for the comments. I understand what your saying about the "distortion" caused by the lens.. guess I could work the image in PS. As to the fill flash... agree that the area is dark. Don't think I had my flash hooked up at the time....and my built in flash usually gets blocked by the large lens I was using (it is one of my very few complaints about the 10D)

Excellent. Wonderful detail and composition, and it positively glows against that sky. A favorite for sure. :)

Hi Paul, great night shot. Very well exposed. The combination of deep blues and orange lighting is perfect. I'm not sure I think the perspective caused by the wide angle lens (distortion) is quite necessary, and the dark are in the lower left corner could possibly use some more details and a lighter tone (maybe even using a fill flash) but the atmosphere is excellent. Good job!

Cheers,

Hugo

good bye! good bye!   {K:-694} 8/5/2004
Paul, anytime :) I'm not stating that architecture on a photograph gotta be straight for it's own sake :) however in this one there too many details to me and having both building at some angle to each other and not quite straight creates a bit of a mess to me. That's just my point, no more. thanks!

Paul's Photos Paul's Photos   {K:35235} 8/5/2004
thanks for your comment.. I understand about keeping vertical/horizontal lines straight. Not sure if I agree that the image needs to be straightened, I purposely chose this angle. Sometimes, there is more to shooting architecture than just keeping the lines straight.. i like how each building contrasts with each other, esp the angles. But, I understand what you are stating.. just not sure if I agree in this case :) thanks again for your input.

good bye! good bye!   {K:-694} 8/5/2004
shooting architecture is quite a task, I would say, some lines need to be kept straight vertical or horizontal.. or be obvious from the picture why is it otherwise. Here I cannot see a reason why every single vertical is tilt either way :) You happened to get absolutely perfect exposure but the compo isn't that good to me. I'd focus my attention to the right hand (my view) building keep it straight ..and then crop the left side by 2-3 cm. rgrds. D.

beautiful!

I took the photo from Harper's Ferry after having crossed the bridge and walked down the stairs so from the side of the river if you want to say. :) When did you go last week? I was there on the 26th of Jul.

Thanks Thilo... glad you liked it. Well, that is the best I can do with the wide angle, need to buy a wider lens than 24mm or 28mm but even if I had one, I would not always travel with it.

Dear Paul,

you combined some interesting details to a good composition. The darker area on the lower left, the yellow-colored-buildings AND the blue heaven in the back. 1/15s is hard to hold, no question. Actually, I would love to see this picture with more wide angle to get some more detail from the building on the left.

Cheers, Thilo

Well done! You were really pushing the envelope at that shutter speed. Sometimes it comes off, but seldom as well as this one did. The warmth of the tungsten lighting and the dark blue sky are a beautiful contrast. The details of the building, while naturally a little "soft" are fascinating. A great image.
