Hope you don't mind me answering Jimmy here in your post Rebecca....well Jim I guess because I live in Niagara and it is so richly steeped in history of the 'War of 1812' and so many buildings still stand. Before he died in the war General Sir Isaac Brock literally changed the course of the war with the fall of Fort Detroit and William Hull's shame. I believe not a shot was fired either. Canada was now going to remain a country in its own right. Niagara-on-the-Lake was our first capitol before it was moved to York which is now Toronto. Then there is the Laura Secord story, Fitzgibbons etc etc. Too too much to get into here but hope this gives you an idea anyway...Christine

Rebecca, I love the composition here - the repeated shapes receeding as if into history -- great job

You put the short DOF to excellent use here, with each headstone fading slowly off into the darkness of history and memory... I love the way the first stone is highlighted! I would like to have been able to see the top of the last headstone - just a small strip of dark to give it a border, maybe? But that's just a tiny nit - this is a wonderful photo!

PCS (sorry to butt in on yer post Becc...but I just have to know)...PCS...why the war of 1812??? Not that there is anything wrong wiff dat...just...well, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, WWI and WWII all make sense. Even Vietnam and Korea....but I don't think I have ever come across an "1812" fan...hmmmmm ...no...I don't believe so. Sure, I know a wee bit about that war, Impressment of sailors, boundary lines between US and Canada..."Battle of Lundy Lane" (did I get that one right? I think that was an 1812 battle...but going on faulty/old/almost drunk memory...) hmmm....1812....and then there is that Johnny Horton song and all..."In a 1814 we took a little trip...." Andrew Jackson, Old Hickory"....war of 1812, eh...strange. Why does that particular war have such meaning for you? Becc...thanks...I owe ya one for letting me ask all that silliness on one of yer posts....anything ya want...anything...I owe ya. JIL

My Gr-gr-grandfather fought in the Civil War. 126th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Yep...and he was from Germany. This was foreign soil to him.

It's historical content holds the same fascination as the War of 1812 does for me. Wonderful soft focus Rebecca and then the headstone in the forefront is crisp and detailed with that fastastic glow. I swear you must be able to capture spirits. Pefectly toned as well of course.
