Rodney honestly thank you so much for your detail regarding this shot - definitely not too much. I like to hear the process. It is extremely helpful. Thank you for all of your info!!!! Kind Regards, Cindi

After the fact it's always easy to see these things. When you're caught up in the show it's easy to overlook. Thanks for taking a look at my Cactus Flower photo. I appreciate the comments.

Jim, thank you and I agree about the cropping. Sorry I couldn't get the whole image but it exploded above the view of my camera. Maybe next year I can set up in a spot that'll let me catch the whole view because this happened more than once. Oh well, lessons learned.

I enjoyed your macro of the cactus flower using the extension tube. You wonderfully showed the delicate parts and intricate details of the blossom. Just amazing. Again, thanks for sharing. Rodney

Great color and sharpness. I would like to see the entire explosion uncropped though.

Cindi, yes, I used a tripod and a bulb and a remote control for the shutter release which is needed with the Canon bulb feature. My distance away was somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 mile on a long slope up from where the fireworks were launched. The aperature setting was based on the old axiom of f16 on a sunny day with iso of 100. This setting was confirmed by a couple of articles I read on the internet. The exif file on this image reads 10 seconds while the others range between 5 to 12 seconds, but some of that was waiting in the dark for the launch.
I had some frustrations with the exposure because I had to hit the remote to open the shutter and hit it again to close it. The infrared remote didn't always open and close when I wanted it to and I have quite a few that are over exposed. I tried to open it when I heard the boom or saw the flash of the launch of the fireworks and close it before it finished all its pattern. In the post-processing, I cropped to frame. (I intentionally used a large JPG setting knowing that I would crop afterwards.) I also saturated the color or some of the exposures. Forgive me if this is more information than you wanted.
I viewed your portfolio and it is wonderful. You seem to have a love of people, especially children, and photography. It must be a joy bringing the two of them together. Your quotes regarding light are lived out in your photos because you use light extremely well. Great work.
Forgive me if this response is too long. Thank you for your kind comments and for writing. Rodney

Rodney nice colors and great depth here with F16. Tripod of course right? Bulb at what 3 to 4 seconds? Wondered how far you were exactly when shooting. I did a few myself this holiday, but my distance was too far away w/lense choice. 7 from me... Well done. Kind Regards, Cindi
