Thanks for the great comments.
This wasnt the spider I walked into, but one of its relatives.
I was crawling around a cotton field and discovered hundreds of these beasties.
Must have walked into 50, but luckily only one landed on my face. I think I hurled it into the next state when it happpened :)

Stunning looking spider, glorious creatures aren't they yet most of us fear them. The silvery/mauve body is luminescent and the detail outstanding. I have never had one on my face but once I cut between the tool shed and hedges and out of my peripheral I saw something big and dark on my shoulder, went berserk, ripped my T-shirt off and screamed like a banshee. The body of the spider was about the size of a quarter and big hairy legs.
