One of the reasons why Vancouver is so visually spectacular in the spring is the sheer volume of rhododendrons. These were growing behind my apartment building in a small garden that's perpetually unoccupied.
More florals. More teeny, tiny, I-wish-I-had-more DOF. I kind of like the colours and shapes in this one, but you know, that's just me. :)
I like the very shallow DOF on this - and the effect if produces with the flowers in the background, but it seems to me that the little anthers that are the focal point are just too small in scale, and are a bit overwhelmed by the big masses in the unfocused background. I keep going to the little brown anther on the green background, but my eye feels like it doesn't have enough to hang on to. I think if a little more of the filaments were also in focus, I could 'latch on' to them better. I do like it, but almost more as an abstract than as a straight floral - so that's what I'm going with. An abstract it is, and a nice one! :)
I am in my flower phase these past two years. Been so tuned into it with no pause in sight. Anyway, I think you have produced the right amount of DOF, because of the illusion it gives. It's like looking at this with one's own two eyes; without any clear point of focus. To me this is like a fantasy image. It's very dreamlike and ethereal. It's great to know that people are still making works of art with the older film cameras. What would enhance this photograph a bit more is to use a drop shadow along the lower border and side of the "print." Not that it needs anything else, but just a thought.
