About This photo was captured in natural light on a sunny day. I am new to photography and welcome constructive criticism. This is one of my first macro shots, so please offer any advice you may have about how to capture macro shots of insects and other small creatures.

Nice macro work.

Paul has given you really good advice on DoF. The one thing he didn't mention is that sometimes you may want to limit your DoF (for instance to exaggerate a background by throwing it far out of focus). If you choose to use a narrow DoF, then move your aperature in the other direction (small number = larger opening --> narrower DoF).

Good luck. Look foward to seeing the results of your experiments.

Doesn't look like you need any constructive criticism on THIS shot. Really. The main light at an angle gives you great texture here.

The main problem with macro photography is the extremely shallow area of focus (depth of field, often referred to as DOF here on Usefilm). To add to that when necessary, put your camera in aperature priority and use the highest value you can. Higher numbers = smaller aperature in the lens = more inches that are sharply in focus.

Tremendous subject benjamin. No advice sorry. I'm a bit new to this stuff.
