Aloha Jay, and a belated Happy New Year to you. I have been away for quite awhile, but I have always been able to check in on your portfolio, always tracking your divine ascent/descent into further realms of creative, inspired (and often sleepless?) madness. You still rock with the very best, my brother, and will always be an inspiration to me. Just wanted to let you know ;-) BTW, this is one incredible self portrait - maybe traditional by your usual standards, but WOW!!!! Into my faves as well.... Mahalo, GP.

A J.P. Witkin with a human face! It shows again how important lighting is, I wish I could master light and shadow as u do in kost of your photography. Do u recommend any book? ;-)

Wow! It is a sourse of great amazement and interest to me that you can look so different in each self-portrait. This shot is very intense, like you are famished. I am truly a fan of your work as you have helped me see.

Some photographer's have it and some don't. YOU GOT IT! Wish I did. Wish I was brave enough to explore this side of myself.

that's just it, jay, you can shoot and shoot and continue to chart the Thousand Faces you have within--and without--you. the razor-slice off the top, in one stroke, adds an entirely new layer of possibility. keep on charting the map of your soul.

:) well......have you seen the movie smoke? by Paul Auster and Wayne Wang? Well any way... there is this Cigar shop owner (pleyd by Harvey Kaietel) that every day before he opens the shop takes a photo of the corner outside the door. he has like 5000 photos of the same street corner. Well anyway one day he sows his lifes work to a friend/costumer that at first aint looking at the pictures, just flipping pages over and over, till Keitel explains to him that yes ok it was the same corner at every photo...but they aint all the same photo....there are diff. people in every photo, the sun shines diff. every day etc etc. so the friends starts to really study each and every photo... then he sees his late whife in a photo just a couple of days before her death... So yea you can take this shot many many times. but it will never be the same shot shooten. :) hmmm ... .get it?
