About I posted a color version of this image earlier today with no cropping. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. The color version got some low marks and they are right on...it's just another shot. Here is the B&W version I had too. I think this one has more punch...let me know what you think.

Very nicely composed. Good in black and white. Beautiful natural model and works so much more for me than one with makeup. Really enjoyed your portfolio and look forward to more of your work.

I like the B&W version a bit better myself here... Great shooting... and thanks for comments on my work as well

Mark, the channel mixer is a wonderful tool (both for B&W conversions and colour enhancement), so it's great that you're getting to know it and use it. Once you've mastered applying the channel mixer globally, you can start experimenting with applying different channel mixer settings to different parts of the image. If you're interested, drop me an e-mail and I'll send you a detailed description of how to do this.

I think this is an improvement over the colour version as far as the crop goes. The colours are a matter of taste. As much as I generally prefer B&W photography, I think that colour would suit your model equally well in an image like this (given the simple black & red of her top and the lovely colour of her hair).

Regarding the tonality, my first impression was that you used the channel mixer with a high percentage for the red channel setting. The model's skin is pale in a manner that I think doesn't quite work here (whereas in your Peaceful picture, the light skin tones work very well), and also the lips have become too light. Try readjusting the tones by reducing the red channel in favour of the green channel.
